Today I had the privilege of presenting to the East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD) Adult Transition Program – North Team and speaking with dedicated staff who support students with disabilities and their families as they transition into adulthood, college, work, and independent living.

This conversation was especially meaningful to me — not only as a Social Security disability attorney, but also as a parent and former mental health rehabilitation counselor who once worked in school settings, including elementary and high schools.

One of my biggest goals is to help young individuals and families make informed decisions without fear. Many students with disabilities may still be able to explore work, education, and meaningful opportunities while maintaining important SSI and/or SSDI benefits through available Social Security work incentive programs.

I strongly believe that disability should never automatically mean giving up on dreams, education, purpose, or contribution to society. Every individual deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential in the way that works best for them.

I truly appreciated the engagement and dedication of the staff and the work they do every day for students and families. Thank you for the opportunity to present and to be part of these important conversations. 💙

On this Mother’s Day, I want to recognize and honor all mothers and caregivers, especially those caring for children with disabilities and families facing difficult challenges.

Through my work as a Social Security disability attorney, I have witnessed the extraordinary strength, sacrifice, patience, and unconditional love that so many mothers give every single day, often while putting themselves last.

Today is a reminder that your efforts matter, your sacrifices are seen, and your love makes a lasting impact on families and communities.

I am honored and grateful to have received the Alumna of the Year Award from Lincoln Law School of San Jose during the 2026 graduation ceremony.

Lincoln Law School gave me the opportunity to pursue legal education while balancing work, family responsibilities, and life challenges. As a former refugee and evening student, that opportunity helped me continue a legal career path that was interrupted by war and ultimately serve disabled and vulnerable communities through my law practice and public service.

It was also a privilege to celebrate alongside the graduates of the Class of 2026, faculty, judges, alumni, and community leaders.

Congratulations and best wishes to the Lincoln Law School of San Jose Class of 2026 on this important achievement.

Thank you to the San Fernando Valley Bar Association (California) for the opportunity to present today’s online MCLE program on navigating Social Security disability benefits.

I appreciated the opportunity to connect with fellow attorneys and discuss SSDI/SSI benefits, work rules, and related issues impacting clients and communities.

I’m also grateful that today’s technology allows us to educate, collaborate, and engage across different regions through online platforms, as I did today from my office.

Grateful to have been invited to speak with Families at the Border, a Stanford initiative supporting migrant and refugee communities in California and Tijuana.

I shared both my professional perspective and my personal journey as a former refugee. Years ago, I was at the border between North Macedonia and Kosovo with my young children and my husband, an experience that continues to shape how I serve my clients today.

We also discussed ongoing efforts in Santa Clara County and ways to continue supporting this population.

As a member of the advisory board for the Center for Immigrant and Refugee Health, I’m especially grateful to Dr. Mohammad Sediq Hazratzai for sharing insights from his work that helped inform my presentation.

Grateful to have attended the spring conference hosted by National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR)in Baltimore last week.

Among many important sessions, I especially valued those focused on the ethical use of artificial intelligence and the responsibility to protect client information. As these tools evolve, learning how to use them responsibly and safely is essential to serving our clients well.

Another impactful session, including insights connected to the Homeless Action Center(Alameda County, CA), highlighted how trauma affects the homeless disabled community. It was also a reminder that trauma can impact us as providers. As a former refugee who has experienced war and displacement with my small children, this work resonates deeply with me. At the same time, it reinforces the importance of maintaining our own well-being so we can continue to advocate effectively for our clients.

I’m thankful for my team, who kept our office running smoothly while I remained engaged remotely.

Continuing legal education is essential to better serve our clients and community.
