The mission of the Gender Affirmation Project is to provide free, quality legal services for trans and non-binary folk in the process of updating Texas-issued forms of identification. As a student-run initiated project with the Mithoff Pro Bono Program at the University of Texas School of Law, the mission of Texas Law Gender Affirmation Project (GAP) is to provide free, quality services for the LG

BTQ+ community within the Texas legal system. At this time, our primary offered service is providing legal assistance through our Name & Gender Marker Clinics for trans and non-binary folk! In these clinics, we aid trans and non-binary individuals within the Texas legal system in the process of obtaining name and/or gender-marker changes on basic forms of identification. For individuals who are in the first steps of changing their name/gender markers, law student volunteers will assist with drafting the petition, court order, and any other documents you might need to file with the court, like a fee waiver. You will receive the drafted documents later in the week via email with instructions on how to eFile and update your actual documents once your petition is approved and court order is signed.
