It's National Dog Week and I'd like to remind everybody who actually runs this office. 🐾

Official title: Chief Morale Officer. Duties: greet every client at the door, supervise the signing table, nap under the conference table during depositions. Compensation: belly rubs, paid weekly.

Sunday Funday means one thing: TRAILS.

Buddy's pick this weekend is Sweetwater Creek State Park — 15 miles of trails, creek views, and leashed pups welcome. The Red Trail to the old mill ruins is about a mile each way. Perfect for a golden who peaks early and naps hard.

Pack water for both of you (September in Georgia is no joke), keep the leash on around the rocks, and check the paws for rough spots after.

The Downtown Connector: 3/10 paws. 14 lanes of togetherness.
I-285: 2/10 paws. A 64-mile lap you never signed up for.
Spaghetti Junction: 1/10 paws. Designed by a dropped plate of noodles.

Georgia Law in 5 Seconds: the other driver's insurance doesn't pay your medical bills as you go. They pay once — one check, at the very end.

Your ER bill shows up in three weeks. Their check shows up when the claim settles. Mr. Whiskers knows that gap is stressful. It's his favorite room temperature.

Fine Print Friday, and today the fine print is worth reading: it's an adoption application.

LifeLine Animal Project runs the Fulton and DeKalb County shelters, and right now they are FULL. Big dogs, senior dogs, dogs who just need one human to look at them the way my humans look at me every morning.

Adoption fees are often waived or reduced during their capacity events, and every dog goes home spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. That's the best contract you'll ever sign — no hidden clauses, just a best friend.

Ever since our post on the most dangerous roads in Atlanta went up, this question has been all over my inbox. So let's settle it. Drop your vote in the comments — TRUE or FALSE — then keep reading. 👇

Answer: FALSE. Georgia follows a "modified comparative negligence" rule (O.C.G.A. § 51-12-33). If you were less than 50% at fault, you can still recover — your compensation is just reduced by your share of the blame. Example: 20% at fault on a $200,000 case still means $160,000.

You walk me twice a day. That makes you a pedestrian — and Georgia law has your back more than you might think.

Under O.C.G.A. § 40-6-91, a driver has to STOP and stay stopped when you're in a crosswalk. And here's the part most folks miss: an unmarked crosswalk counts. If there's a sidewalk on both corners, there's a legal crosswalk between them, stripes or no stripes.

Three things my humans want every dog walker to know:
1. Cross at corners, not mid-block — it protects you legally AND physically.
2. At night, light up. 84% of Georgia pedestrian deaths happen after dark.
3. If a driver hits you, never tell their insurance company "I wasn't looking." Talk to a lawyer first.
