What an AMAZING retreat with some amazing, powerful advocates!

Thank you .birth for bringing your skills and training to our corner of the world.

We learned and practiced ( )! Learning to be effective advocates and bridge builders in the birthing world takes practice, feedback, passion, and repetition.

Advocacy is education. Advocacy is NOT not a battle.
Advocacy is communication. Advocacy is NOT being confrontational.
Advocacy is bringing a team together for safer care. Advocacy is NOT stepping back when clients are scared, confused, or coerced.

Better advocacy skills allow clients to feel safe and empowered in their care and bridging the gap of individualized patient-centered care in our high volume system. It allows birthworkers to work for a lifetime without having to standby witnessing acts of coercion or, worse, obstetric violence, and client feeling abandoned by their whole team in those moments. It allows providers to provide high quality care to clients who are prepared to seek the information they need to make decisions and communicate their needs for a safer process all around.
