Attention Small Business Owners:
With the signing of the combined COVID relief bill and Omnibus bill yesterday, there is a minor update to the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). This is the legislation that required mandatory paid sick leave and family medical leave. The program was originally set to expire on December 31, but the new COVID relief measures contained within the omnibus budget bill extends the tax credit for an additional quarter through March 31, 2021. The paid leave will no longer be mandatory, but if you continue to provide the leave for an employee who meets the qualifications (they have COVID symptoms, they are taking care of someone with COVID symptoms, etc.), you will still be eligible for a tax credit.
If you have questions about what type of leave may be covered or best practices for administering a COVID time-off or any time-off program, reach out to us today for a consultation.

Governor Brian Kemp just issued a new executive order that provides guidance for businesses slated to begin reopening tomorrow, April 24, 2020, as well as restaurants reopening for in-person dining on Monday, April 27, 2020.
The new executive order also provides guidance for businesses as the state prepares to end the shelter in place order on April 30, 2020.
There are several types of businesses, including bars, public swimming pools, and performance venues will remain closed at least through May 13, 2020.

If you have questions about how this new executive order will impact your business's operations, or what steps you should take so you can safely begin to return to more normal operations, contact AWard Law, and we will be happy to discuss your specific situation with you.

Attention Small Business Owners:
If you employ fewer than 500 employees, the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act may have a direct effect on your business.

The bill is backed by the President and was approved by the House last night in 363-40. Should it be approved by the Senate and signed by the President, you will be required to provide PAID sick leave and family medical leave in addition to what you may currently offer.

You should always seek out appropriate legal counsel if you have any questions as to how this bill or any other may impact your business and what changes may be needed to remain in compliance.
