Jasper County Citizens Review – Community Update
On April 7th, I will stand in Superior Court to answer a criminal charge brought against me for the “violation of permitted uses” — a charge based entirely on the presence of our two therapy ponies who have lived peacefully in Monticello for years and supported survivors of crime across this county.
This case is not about zoning. It is about a long pattern of selective enforcement and retaliation that many of you have witnessed over the years. From the GBI investigation that cleared me, to the destroyed open‑records files, to the false accusations that followed — this community has seen how far certain officials will go to silence voices they don’t agree with.
Now they are using our ponies as leverage.
Our ponies have served this community for two decades. They are gentle, aging animals who have helped victims of crime, children, and families heal. They deserve better than to be turned into pawns in a political dispute.
As we prepare for Superior Court, I’m asking our community to stay informed, stay engaged, and stand with us. Your support matters more than ever.

Jasper County: Selective Enforcement or Public Health Neglect?
📍 Location: Corner of Highway 212 & Lakeshore Drive
📅 Timeline: Ongoing since May 2025
https://zorrow.org/jasper-citizens-review
For months, we’ve pleaded with Jasper County officials to address the rat-infested, overgrown property next to our home. The weeds are now 16 feet high, obscuring visibility and harboring rats, snakes, and dead animals. Our dogs are at risk. The smell is unbearable. We’ve had to stop using rat poison because poisoned carcasses endanger our pets.
Despite multiple emails, calls, and photographic evidence, no cleanup has occurred. The property owners live outside Jasper County, and the code enforcement officer claims she can’t cite them—yet she had no problem citing us for our therapy ponies.
This is selective enforcement.
- 🐴 Citation for therapy ponies on our property
- 🐀 No citation for health hazards next door
- 🧾 County admits absentee owners but refuses to act
- 📬 Certified letters promised, but no results delivered
We’re asking Jasper County to step up, clean up, and charge the owners. If not, we’ll continue documenting and posting until this hazard is resolved.
We believe in accountability. We believe in fairness. We believe in protecting our families.

Advocacy Post
ADA Rights Are Not Optional — They’re the Law
https://zorrow.org/adopt-a-horse%2C-inc
Our nonprofit Adopt-A-Horse has spent over 22 years providing survivor-centered equine therapy. Therapy ponies like Sunshine are not just animals — they are lifelines for child s*x crime victims and survivors of trauma.
Now Jasper County wants to treat our therapy program like a nuisance, while ignoring the protections guaranteed under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Title II of the ADA requires counties to administer laws fairly and without discrimination.
- Title III of the ADA protects nonprofits like ours as public accommodations, ensuring survivors have the full and equal enjoyment of therapy services.
Selective enforcement against our program doesn’t just threaten ponies — it threatens survivors’ rights. Restricting access to equine therapy is a civil rights violation, not just a local ordinance dispute.
We are fighting back in court, and we will preserve every word of testimony with a certified court reporter. This isn’t about one citation — it’s about whether Jasper County respects the ADA and the dignity of survivors.
👉 Survivors deserve therapy, not retaliation. Sunshine deserves to keep serving those who need her most.

⚖️ Facing Criminal Risk for Charity Work
I Have a Clean Criminal Record!
https://zorrow.org/adopt-a-horse%2C-inc
Friends and supporters,
As many of you know, I’ve dedicated over two decades to survivor advocacy and equine therapy through Adopt-A-Horse. Our ponies 007 and Sunshine have carried countless children and survivors on the path to healing.
Now, because of my nonprofit work and efforts to protect these therapy animals, I am facing a criminal citation that carries the risk of jail time. This isn’t just about me — it’s about the broader fight for disability access, survivor dignity, and the right of nonprofits to serve their communities without retaliation.
I want to be transparent: a citation in Tennessee or Georgia is not “just a ticket.” It is a criminal charge that can result in incarceration. My case highlights how advocacy can put individuals at personal risk when systems resist accountability.
Call to Action:
- Stand with us by sharing this post.
- Speak up for survivor-centered programs in your community.
- Help us protect 007 and Sunshine, whose future depends on public support.
Together, we can turn this challenge into a precedent for justice and compassion.
Closing Line:
Your voices matter. Let’s show that charity work should never be criminalized. 💙
The citation is being handled by the District Attorney as a criminal case. I received a Criminal Case No: 2025X-030 for this citation. It is a criminal complaint carrying jail time and fines.

Dear Ms. Hutchinson,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to extend a sincere invitation to visit our Adopt-A-Horse program here in Monticello. As you know, our nonprofit has served survivors and children in this community for over two decades, using equine therapy to provide healing, resilience, and dignity.
Given your own commitment to protecting children and advocating for victims, I believe you would find value in seeing firsthand how our ponies—007 and Sunshine—are central to the therapeutic work we do. They are not only animals under citation, but vital partners in a program that has helped countless survivors and families rebuild trust and strength.
I would be honored to welcome you after the Thanksgiving holiday at a time convenient for your schedule. A visit would allow you to meet the ponies in question, see the nature of our program, and understand the broader community impact we strive to achieve. My hope is that this transparency will foster a constructive dialogue as we move forward in the pending matter.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I deeply respect the work you do for children and families in Jasper County, and I look forward to the possibility of sharing our mission with you.
Respectfully,
Dennis Horion

⚖️ Criminal Prosecution of Therapy Ponies in Jasper County ⚖️
https://zorrow.org/adopt-a-horse%2C-inc
Since July 2009, our nonprofit organization has operated out of 10 Macon Street, Monticello, GA 31064, serving survivors through outreach and equine therapy. For over a decade, our ponies—007 and Sunshine—have been part of this mission. They were housed here regularly from 2009 to 2022, and since July 2022 have been semi‑retired, continuing to provide comfort and healing.
Over the years, county officials including Animal Control and Code Enforcement have visited our property numerous times. Not once was a citation issued. The ponies were recognized as part of our nonprofit’s survivor advocacy work, not treated as “livestock.”
Now, in 2025, Jasper County has suddenly chosen to prosecute this as a criminal case, signed by LaToya Hutchinson, Assistant District Attorney, Child Support Unit. This abrupt shift appears to be at the behest of Mary Patrick, raising serious concerns about selective enforcement, retaliation, and misuse of prosecutorial resources.
👉 The hearing is scheduled for December 5, 2025 in Jasper County Magistrate Court.
👉 This is not about zoning—it is about survivor dignity, disability rights, and accountability in county government.
For 16 years, our nonprofit has stood at 10 Macon Street, serving the community with transparency and compassion. Citizens deserve to know why, after years of cooperation and no citations, county leadership is now criminalizing therapy ponies.

Jasper County Deputies Serve Mary Patrick for Our December 5 Court Date!
🐴 From the Ponies’ Mouth: We Deserve to Be Heard 🐴
https://zorrow.org/adopt-a-horse%2C-inc
Hi friends,
It’s us—Sunshine and 007. We’re therapy ponies. We don’t talk much, but when we do, it’s because something matters.
This week, the Jasper County Sheriff delivered legal papers to Mary Patrick, the person behind the complaint that could force us out of our home. She’s been asked to appear and bring documents. We’ve also filed a motion to dismiss this whole thing.
We don’t understand why someone would want us gone. We’ve never hurt anyone. We help people heal. Survivors brush our manes and whisper things they can’t say out loud. We carry burdens that don’t show up in court filings.
If Mary Patrick has concerns, we hope she’ll speak them—not behind closed doors, but in a public forum where truth matters and healing is possible. We believe in transparency. We believe in second chances. We believe in listening.
We’re not just “livestock.” We’re part of a mission. We’re part of a family. And we’re asking for compassion, not condemnation.
Thank you to everyone who’s stood by us.
We feel it. We need it. We’re not backing down.

🦄 UPDATE: Standing Up for Our Therapy Ponies 🦄
https://zorrow.org/adopt-a-horse%2C-inc
Yesterday, we filed two subpoenas and one motion with the Jasper County Magistrate Court in response to the citation targeting our nonprofit’s therapy ponies. Most of the relevant parties have now been served—and they’re just as stunned as we are.
The overwhelming response? Dismay. Confusion. Solidarity.
This complaint didn’t just come out of left field—it came out of nowhere. After 16 years of peaceful, therapeutic work on this land, the sudden push to remove our ponies feels not only unjust, but deeply out of step with the values of this community.
These ponies aren’t “livestock.” They’re survivor companions, therapy partners, and symbols of healing for those who’ve endured the unthinkable. They’ve carried the weight of trauma, not hay bales—and they deserve better than bureaucratic erasure.
We’re hopeful this won’t go to trial next month. But if it does, we’ll be ready—with truth, with community, and with the full power of our mission.
Thank you to everyone who’s reached out with support.
We see you. We hear you. And we’re not backing down.

🐴 From Our Home: A Message from 007 & Sunshine
https://zorrow.org/adopt-a-horse%2C-inc
Hey neighbors,
We know things have been a little quiet out here lately — but don’t worry, our family hasn’t forgotten us. They’re just busy in the office, surrounded by papers, printers, and purpose. They’re fighting for something big: our right to stay in our forever home.
Dennis — the one who always brings the apples and never forgets a hug — went to court this week. He walked into the Sheriff’s Office and the courthouse not for himself, but for us. For every survivor who’s ever brushed our manes with trembling hands. For every child who found peace in our pasture when the world felt too loud.
Some people are trying to make us homeless. But Dennis is holding them accountable — not with anger, but with truth. He’s showing the judge what we’ve seen for years: that this home is more than land. It’s a sanctuary. A place where healing lives.
We’ve watched Dennis fight for victims of child s*x crimes with courage and compassion. While he stood up for them, we stood beside him — offering love, attention, and the quiet strength only ponies can give.
So if you’re wondering where we are — we’re right here. Waiting. Trusting. And hoping you’ll stand with us too.
With love and steady hooves,
007 & Sunshine

🐴 From Our Hearts to Yours — Thank You 🐴
— A message from Sunshine & 007
We may be small, but our hearts are full.
This week, we saw something beautiful:
People speaking up.
People showing up.
People standing with survivors — and with us.
You came by the paddock. You left kind words online. You shared our story.
You reminded the world that healing matters. That dignity matters. That therapy ponies aren’t a nuisance — we’re a lifeline.
We’ve spent 22 years helping survivors find peace, trust, and joy.
Now, thanks to you, we know we’re not alone.
As our human prepares for court, we’ll keep doing what we do best:
Standing quietly. Listening deeply. Loving fiercely.
Thank you for defending our home.
Thank you for defending our mission.
Thank you for believing in healing.
With love and soft noses,
🐴 Sunshine & 007
