The NCRA board received this letter from the ILCRA board. ILCRA decided to keep it short and simple.
"National Court Reporters Association
Board of Directors
and Marcia Ferranto

March 6, 2018

Dear NCRA Board and Ms. Ferranto:
We, the board of the Illinois Court Reporters Association, are confused by many of NCRA's
decisions as of late. First, NCRA decided to cut the lobbying budget and therefore not renew Dave
Wenhold's contract, citing first budgetary concerns and later citing "a new direction."
Next, NCRA has decided to take a neutral stance on biased contracting, which goes against its
previous resolution to assist states when needed.
NCRA, what's going on? Why these strange changes in so short a period of time? We request more
transparency and a thorough explanation. We feel left in the dust.
NCRA didn't give us a lot of time to investigate the links to the legislation on antitrust in order to
write a paper to be officially included in the board meeting – we had urgent matters in Illinois – but
regardless, we're still puzzled by this switch of established policy, and we hope you hear our voice.
In short, NCRA's actions are confusing, and we don't know what to expect anymore. Clue us in.

Sincerely,

Kathryn A. Thomas, RDR, CRC, CSR-IL, ILCRA president
along with the Illinois Court Reporters Association Board of Directors"

"My daughter Hannah decided to give in to my years of prodding and try court reporting. She went to CCR one month -- and it just wasn't for her. She did not like court reporting all. She would like to sell her student machine and everything that came with it to be a court reporting student. If you know of anyone starting court reporting school, here is a machine used only a month at a discount price! Message me if you have anyone interested, and I will send you her contact information."

Michelle will be missed and will never be forgotten.

I'm sure some of you lucky friends got to know Michelle Grimes, a young reporter with a huge yearning to be great. Unfortunately, she lost her battle with cancer last week, and her service will be on Saturday in Joliet. She was the kind of person who touched your heart with her genuine interest in people and inner strength. I miss her already.
