I believe having some rapport helps us work well together during the deeply personal work of birth. No matter how wonderful your nurse is, she's in the room with you only a small percent of the time you're in labor. In place of the age-old human support women have always received from the birth-
wise women in their communities, hospitals, even busy nurse-midwives, encourage reliance on chemical pain relief and synthetic labor induction. If you'd like to birth more naturally, a doula will provide the kind of experienced care that women have known in every culture for thousands of years. I specialize in providing support to women who are interested in natural childbirth. I will help with every aspect of preparing for the birth experience, from practicing natural pain relief techniques to figuring out how to solve situations like "failure to progress." For women who are more comfortable relying on medical technology, a doula is still useful for dealing with anxiety, involving dads/partners, and more. For all my clients, I will be there for you from the minute labor begins until your baby is born.
