A note to our friends and colleagues from Julia Pitcher Worcester:

It’s with mixed emotions that I am proud and happy to announce that starting next month, I’ll be joining the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) team as the Director of State Policy and Advocacy. I am sad to depart yet grateful for the thirteen wonderful years working with the Law Office of J. William Pitcher and for the integral role that has played in my success as a lobbying consultant. I have so many wonderful memories working hand in hand with my Dad and the corps of lobbyists in Annapolis.

I count myself fortunate to be able to transition from an incredible law and lobbying firm to one of our long term clients, as well as to continue to work in the exciting and miraculous field of health care innovation.

We are absolutely devastated that after 25 years of representing the Luke Mill (formerly MeadWestvaco) will close after 130 years of operation.

Nearly 700 jobs, union jobs, and families will impacted by this closure and while some may say this is an environmental “victory” they will be wrong as the need for high quality, coated paper will be manufactured abroad by companies who do not hold the same environmental standards as this country.

We hope that our friends in Western Maryland take care of these families who will be looking for skilled manufacturing jobs during this transition.

Luke Mill, an economic engine in Western Maryland for 131 years, will close by June 30, owner Verso Co. announced Tuesday. The shutdown means 675 people spread across Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia will lose their jobs, the company said.
