Two honored for remarkable achievement and outstanding leadership in cardiothoracic surgery

Robert A. Wynbrandt, '79, was one of two people honored for remarkable achievement and outstanding leadership in cardiothoracic surgery by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).

STS President Robert S. D. Higgins, MD, MSHA said, "Few people, including our presidents and executive officers, have had the impact that Rob has had. This award recognizes those who have made significant and far-reaching contributions to STS and is primarily reserved for surgeon members, but it's clear that Rob is a very special and deserving recipient of this recognition for his service to the Society."

In recognition of exemplary efforts and steadfast service, Robert L. Kormos, MD, and Robert A. Wynbrandt, JD, each have been presented with The Society of Thoracic Surgeons 2020 Distinguished Service Award.

Congratulations to the class of 2019! We are extremely proud of each and every one of this year's 81 graduates. Today was a particularly special occasion because it was the final Summer Start Senior Day. There will no longer be a section ABCD, and in commemoration, we raised a banner to the rafters to honor all of the Summer Starters who have graduated from #UMichLaw and celebrate their unique place in our school’s history. From the Michigan Theater to Aikens Commons, here's a peek at today's event. #umlawgrad

Michigan Law’s First Virtual Interns Advise UN Member States in Geneva

As the Law School's first "virtual interns," Shreya Bose, LLM '19, and 2L Kate Powers recently completed a yearlong hybrid program conceived by Eric Richardson, '91, in coordination with Professors Steven Ratner and Kristina Daugirdas. Their creation, the virtual Geneva externship, includes an online course in international human rights law during the fall term and a semester's worth of remote work that culminates in a weeklong trip to Geneva during the winter term.

A new independent research offering at Michigan Law has had a profound impact on recently graduated LLM Shreya Bose's legal education—so much so that she recently described the program's weeklong capstone trip to Geneva as a "life peak."

Hi there, University of Michigan Law Alumni! I wanted to share this fantastic FREE event coming up on Wednesday! The event will feature Chicago mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot & MSNBC contributor and University of Michigan law professor, Barbara McQuade. This event is free and open to the public, but I'd appreciate a PM if you're interested in attending. Hope to see you there!
Fellow UMich Law alums--I couldn't resist posting a shout out to my colleague, Karima Tawfik '16, who just received an award for her civil rights work in her *first* year of practice here at Lewis Baach. And, an amicus brief she authored was cited by Justices Sotomayor and Ginsburg during oral argument in Frank v. Gaos yesterday! Go Karima, and Go Blue! - Tara '07
Curt Kirschner '85 and I (Adam Dubinsky '07) happened to find ourselves at the same table for lunch in Bradley, CA on day 3 of AIDS/LifeCycle 2018! This year, the ride raised over $16.6 million for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and Los Angeles LGBT Center. In Bradley, the town hosts a BBQ fundraiser as we ride through. The proceeds fund the school's entire arts, music, extracurricular, and field trip programs for the year. This year, Bradley raised over $65,000!
The Michigan Journal of Race & Law is hosting a two-day symposium at the law school on February 16 and 17. We'd love to see you there!
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a student named Phillip A. Young, from the 1950s? He dated Jeane Prather?
