MBLSA hosts Professor Mark D. Rosenbaum this afternoon as he reflects on his career and shares his wisdom with the next generation of lawyers.

Among his many accomplishments, Professor Rosenbaum argued before the United States Supreme Court for the respondents in Schuette v. Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action. The decision was announced this morning.

We look forward to an engaging conversation on this and other topics.

Only a few months after the Supreme Court’s last ruling on the use of race in college admissions, justices will consider affirmative action again Tuesday. This time it’s through a different lens: a Michigan constitutional amendment that bans the state from considering race in public educ...

Please join MBLSA (Michigan Black Law Student Alliance)'s DAY OF ACTION FOR OPPORTUNITY RALLY this Wednesday, October 10, 2012 on the North Campus Diag from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, presentation starts at noon. We are joining forces with our national organization NBLSA to raise awareness of the upcoming ruling of Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin by the Supreme Court.

Currently race is an allowable plus factor for admission into higher education institutions when considered with other factors to evaluate applicants on an individualized basis. This is based on the previous affirmative action case with the University of Michigan Law School in Grutter v. Bollinger (2003). However, Fisher v. Texas, has the potential to make it unconstitutional to consider race at all.

The Court is hearing oral arguments Wednesday morning and we are joining BLSA chapters nationwide to rally against the possible removal of affirmative action in higher education.

You can locate more information regarding the case, and NBLSA's rally in DC here: http://www.causes.com/causes/795487-save-diversity-in-higher-education/actions/1689212.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!
