One of the things I always tell folks thinking of becoming an attorney is that the law can open up doors to doing amazing things. While not “amazing” in the full sense of what the law can accomplish, I fully endorse this use of the law to address what baseball fans know was likely the worst blown call in MLB history.

That said, I always use Armando Galarraga and how he conducted himself as an example to my son, that character matters and can and should be more important than the game. Galarraga’s character and sportsmanship are a big part of why we are still talking about this. He most definitely deserves this acknowledgement and deserves more than an asterisk in the MLB Hall of Fame because he did actually pitch a perfect game.

An admittedly blown call killed Armando Galarraga's bid for a perfect game in 2010. Now a Monmouth University law class is working to change that.

Over the last several months, Attorney Tim Brennan, successfully handled several cases, in election matters related to the 2020 federal election for President of the United States. Mr. Brennan, along with follow solicitors Richard Santee and Brian Taylor, helped defend the work of local election officials who spent months of their time and countless late nights ensuring the 2020 election was conducted with reliability, integrity and according to the rule of law.

All of these matters were resolved in favor of Northampton County and there were no findings of any irregularities. These cases included Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. v. Boockvar, No. 2:20-cv-966 (W.D. Pa. October 10, 2020) and Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. v. Boockvar, No.: 4:20-cv-02078 (M.D. Pa. November 21, 2020). One case was argued for the President’s campaign by Rudy Giuliani.

“There is no more important role for an attorney then defending the rights of individuals to participate in our Democracy,” Mr. Brennan said. One suit seeking to prohibit certification of the 2020 election would have disenfranchised millions of Pennsylvania voters. “There are few times that I recall being more proud of my work as an attorney, than leaving the courthouse on election day after seeing the work of local officials and having the privilege to support them and to defend their exceptional work," he said.

In dismissing the most recent matter, the Judge described the remaining claim as a “Frankenstein’s Monster . . . haphazardly stitched together from two distinct theories in an attempt to avoid controlling precedent.” The Judge reaffirmed the rule of law and the importance of our individual votes in his opinion, stating cogently what should be immediately obvious to all citizens:

“The Plaintiff ask this Court to disenfranchise almost seven million voters. . . . One might expect that when seeking such a startling outcome, a plaintiff would come formidably armed with compelling legal arguments and factual proof of rampant corruption . . . . That has not happened. Instead, this Court has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, unpled in the operative complaint and unsupported by evidence. In the United States of America, this cannot justify the disenfranchisement of a single voter, let alone all the voters of its sixth most populated state. Our people, laws, and institutions demand more.”

A US District Court judge Saturday dismissed a lawsuit by the Trump campaign trying to invalidate millions of Pennsylvania mail-in votes in a significant loss for the campaign.

We want to extend a warm welcome to our new associate attorney, Casey Schweppenheiser, who joined us at the end of this summer.

She was born and raised in northeastern Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of hard working parents who instilled in her the value of a good work ethic from a young age. She attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a concentration in Law and Society.

Ms. Schweppenheiser studied at Villanova University School of Law. She was Chair of the Moot Court Board at Villanova. She received awards for oral advocacy and writing from Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana and Pepperdine School of Law in Los Angeles, California.

Ms. Schweppenheiser sought out internships in law school that allowed her to be in the courtroom. She served as an intern for the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office representing juveniles charged with delinquency in adjudication, detention and sentencing hearings. She then spent her final year of law school interning for the Chester County District Attorney’s Office handling felony and misdemeanor preliminary hearings throughout Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Following law school, Ms. Schweppenheiser clerked for the Honorable Judge Arthur L. Zulick of the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas. She continues to be active with the Young Lawyers Division of the Monroe County Bar Association.

Prior to joining Brennan Law Offices, Ms. Schweppenheiser spent five years practicing Pennsylvania workers’ compensation law for a large Philadelphia law firm. She is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and has been chosen to the “Super Lawyers Rising Stars” list for workers’ compensation practice in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
