CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTION OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS
Article 33 of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda outlines the rights of women as follows:
1. Women are entitled to full and equal dignity with men.
2. The State must provide the necessary resources and opportunities to support the welfare and advancement of women.
3. The State is obligated to protect women's rights, acknowledging their unique societal roles, including maternal functions.
4. Women have the right to equal treatment and opportunities with men in political, economic, and social spheres.
5. Women are entitled to affirmative action to address historical, traditional, or customary imbalances.
6. Any laws, customs, or traditions that undermine women's dignity, welfare, or status are prohibited.
