Good morning Gallant Makereans and Ugandans at large. We are saddened by the unfortunate events that transpired last evening where the historical Ivory Tower was engulfed in fire that destroyed properties worth billions of shillings and many vital documents of this great institution. We hope that investigations into the matter are persued expeditiously and we get to know the cause and extent of damage. We also demand that Government intervenes immediately and this historical building that is that hallmark of the great Makerere University is restored to original state and sanity prevails before the university gets to be reopened.

Warm greeting gallant intellectuals;

As Ramadan comes to a close, I want to wish Makerere University Moslem students and friends a heartfelt ā€œEid Mubarakā€

I know this Ramadan has been especially tough for the Muslim community, families have not been able to see each other, you were unable to break the fast together or even go to the mosque for prayers, yet I have witnessed incredible resilience.

It hasn't been a good journey but thank you because over these difficult past few weeks, you have gone above and beyond in doing your bit to keep the faith moving . For many that has been achieved by staying at home, saving lives by sacrificing time with your loved ones even when I know you ached to be at the mosque or breaking your fast with friends and family.

I have also seen countless Muslims stepping up to help take care of their local communities, by sharing food stuffs with the vulnerable families others went ahead to provide charity to those in need. I commend you brothers and sisters in faith

And of course, there are the many medical students of Muslim faith serving on the frontline Service to fight COVID-19 when Makerere University started testing for COVID-19, you are Brave men and women who, in the best traditions of Islam, are selflessly giving of themselves to help those in need. It has been a holy month quite unlike any the university fraternity or the entire nation has ever known.

Eid is one of the joyous occasions where families and communication all come together to celebrate but this time our number one priority will be to keep our loved ones and community safe, by following the MoH guidelines, because we all know how COVID-19 has disproportionately affected all activities in the past few months.

Eid Mubarak.

World Press Freedom Day.

Every 3rd May is the World's Press Freedom Day. The theme for this year is "Journalism Without Fear or Favour" and as the world grapples with the covid-19 pandemic, there has been a rise to misinformation, harmful and wild conspiracies. It's against this background that as we celebrate this day, the press provides the antidote in giving citizens of the world verified, scientific, fact based news and analysis.

The press freedom in Uganda continues to be a myth with wild coverage of press brutality, torture, suppression and oppression in contravention of the press freedoms guaranteed by our constitution. Therefore, I salute the professional and patriotic journalists who have continued to practice this noble profession without fear or favour, amidst a hostile environment. Our empathy goes out to those who have been brutalized or unjustly treated in line of duty.

As a leader, I shall continue to advocate for the rights and freedoms of the press at all levels to ensure we have a society and country where each individual is free to practice their profession. I call upon you, the gallant sons and daughters of Uganda to always advocate for this freedom as an Injustice to one is an Injustice to all of us.

Together we shall have a Press Free world.

Dear comrades in faith;

I extended greetings to Muslims around the country on the start of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.

I Wish you all a blessed Ramadan although we are going to observe the month at home this year. By coming together virtually, we will be able to stay connected and still honour the values at the heart of Islam. compassion, peace, and service to others.

The months long spiritual journey of fasting and prayer is traditionally a time of collective gathering but will look different this year as the country continues its fight against COVID-19.

During this crisis, the values at the heart of Islam should be compassion, gratitude, and generosity resonate more than ever.

A time of charity and spiritual contemplation, Ramadan reminds us to put the needs of others before our own and to practice those values in our daily lives.

I urge all my moslem friends to take the time to recognize, and show gratitude for the invaluable contributions that Muslims make each day to the country.

Ramadan Mubarak!

Hello Friends, may you find wisdom in these wonderful words of former president of the United States of America, John F Kennedy.

07/04/2020

Gallant Makerereans,
I hope this communique finds you well amidst the storm and uncertainty bestowed upon us by the Covid-19 pandemic.

As per the communique from the First lady and minister of Education, Hon Janet Latasha Museveni, the higher institutions of learning are most likely to re-open on the 2nd of May 2020 subject to the progress made in containing the deadly virus.

In the meantime, keep revising your books and continue to pray to God for his mercy and most importantly stay home to stay safe and follow the guidelines issued by the relevant health and administrative authorities.

May God keep you safe in these difficult times. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the end of this mess, by the grace of God.

Alluta continua.

Dear Gallant Makerereans,

Ever since we went back home, following the presidential directive of closing all institutions of learning, chances are you’re worried and have questions about just how contagious corona virus is and whether you are at risk. Misinformation has cropped across social media since corona virus or COVID-19 as it is now called began spreading.

So, I have engaged many health experts and done some research to get us facts about this contagious corona virus, and here are things we should know:

The virus is spread or transmitted through direct contact with respiratory droplets from an infected person and by touching surfaces that are contaminated. As we are home for this one among holiday, I advise you to keep or maintain 3 feet of distance between you and people who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever.

Symptoms of corona virus can include fever, cough, shortness of breath. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia or breathing difficulties. More rarely, the disease can be fatal but that’s mainly among old people with preexisting conditions.

Precautions you can take may include;
Wash your frequently for at least 20 seconds using soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
Cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing. Use your elbow or use a tissue then throw it in the bin immediately after.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Avoid crowed place, if you are unwell stay home and seek medical advice.

If you don’t have any symptoms of corona virus, there is no need to wear a mask. Hand washing is actually more important. If you are coughing and sneezing, it is advised you wear a medical mask to help protect others.

To date, there is no specific medicine to prevent or treat the new corona virus, so the best thing you can do is practice basic hygiene. And boost your immunity by;
Reducing sugar consumption.
Take a vitamin tablet or lemon per day.
Stop drinking alcohol and smoking.
Eat a lot of fruits on a daily basis.

Let's follow medical precautions, ministry of health guidelines and the presidential directives.

Please immediately call the ministry of health to report a case or when you notice any symptoms of corona virus on their toll free line 08001080066.
