The controversial remarks from Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to American govt officials have caused a total war between Patriotic League of Uganda Secretary General Daudi Kabanda and Information Minister Chris Baryomunsi with the earlier warning the later how he has to respect the Commander of security Forces.
The clash comes days after Gen. Muhoozi posted and later deleted a string of messages,
while panicking, Gen Muhoozi later issued an apology, saying he had been given wrong information and that military cooperation would continue “as usual.”
As the posts drew wide attention, Minister Baryomunsi stepped in said the CDF’s tweets should not be treated as government positions, describing them as “casual comments” that are often brief and sometimes deleted.
Baryomunsi added that the posts had complicated his job as government spokesperson and disclosed that he had raised the issue with the appointing authority, including his boss Gen Museveni, arguing that such remarks risk creating avoidable diplomatic and communications strain.
However the minister's comments did not go down well with Kabanda who responded that, the head of the army is not an ordinary commentator, he urged that government communicators should not publicly “diminish” the CDF, especially at a time when the ruling establishment is managing sensitive relations with external partners.
Kabanda described the minister as “a known opportunist” who joined government for “political survival,” and accused him of lacking the moral standing to “despise” Gen. Muhoozi.
Kabanda concluded by presenting Gen. Muhoozi as a figure who, unlike others, would not “tolerate” what he called blackmail and mediocrity, framing the dispute as part of a larger internal contest over influence and future political direction.
