Double standards and a European tour? While the International Criminal Court seeks justice, EU leaders are helping to shield those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
This week, Viktor Orbán is hosting Benjamin Netanyahu in Budapest—despite the ICC’s arrest warrant for his alleged war crimes, including starvation as a method of warfare, and crimes against humanity such as murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts committed during Israel’s war on Gaza.
Yet Netanyahu isn’t just being welcomed in Hungary. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas, and Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič have all met with Netanyahu or other Israeli officials. Meanwhile, Germany and Poland have signaled they will disregard the ICC’s arrest warrant, following Orbán’s example.
Supporting the ICC is not about politics—it’s about upholding international law and human rights. No leader should be above the law. Silence in the face of war crimes is complicity.
