It really takes a village to raise a child.

We celebrated that village at our PCF NW13 Staff Appreciation Dinner! When we think of Teachers' Day, we naturally think of our educators who pour so much care and energy into our little ones every day. But just as vital is the team supporting them; our cooks, cleaners, and administrators who keep our centres running smoothly and safely.

To everyone across PCF Sparkletots working on the ground and behind the scenes: thank you for your patience, dedication, and big hearts. Wishing all our teachers and support staff a restful, well-deserved long Teachers' Day weekend.

Honoured to join Minister Chan Chun Sing, Parliamentary colleague Elysa Chen, and our friends at the Embassy of Vietnam in Singapore to celebrate the 81st Anniversary of Vietnam's National Day.

I was very impressed by the show of traditional Vietnamese fashions, and of course the delicious food too!

Singapore and Vietnam share a warm, multifaceted friendship built on deep trust and decades of strong cooperation across our region which we are very proud to commemorate.

Wishing the people of Vietnam continued peace, progress, and prosperity. Happy belated National Day!

Estate cleanliness matters to all of us at the Marine Parade Braddell Heights Town Council.

There is nothing pleasant about seeing rodents scurrying around our estates. I am therefore glad that residents in some areas, including Jalan Dua and Old Airport Road, have told me they are seeing fewer rodents recently.

As reported by Shin Min Daily News, across the areas managed by Marine Parade Braddell Heights Town Council (Braddell Heights, Geylang Serai, Kembangan, MacPherson, Marine Parade, and Mountbatten), 850 rodents were removed in June and July, with another 311 removed in August. That is 1,161 rodents in three months.

On 2 September, I joined our Town Council team at Blk 90B Jalan Satu during one of their rodent control operations to better understand how this work is done .

What struck me was how much work goes into it.

Teams study sightings, identify burrows and hotspots, deploy traps, conduct night operations and work on bin centre cleanliness. Even the bait is adjusted depending on what works in each area, from cookies and prawn crackers to roti prata. We may try chocolate next. I understand it is a particular favourite of rodents!

I want to recognise the hard work of our estate workers, Town Council officers and councillors who have been tackling this issue consistently.

Rodents multiply quickly, so this cannot be solved through one operation. It is an ongoing effort.

We may not eliminate rodents completely, but we can keep their numbers down and reduce sightings significantly. The Town Council will continue to monitor the situation closely and be aggressive in tackling rodent activity.

Residents have an important role too. Food waste becomes a ready food source, so all of us can help by disposing of food and rubbish properly.

Keeping our estates clean is a collective effort. We will keep at it.

As a union adviser to SMEEU, supporting workers and their families is an important part of my work. But presenting scholarships and education grants is always something particularly special.

I see the children, their hard work and their achievements. I also see the pride on their parents’ faces and the sacrifices made quietly along the way.

It reminds me that it takes a village to raise a child. I am grateful for the opportunity to share in these heartwarming moments and to celebrate the dedication of every recipient.

Congratulations to all our scholarship and education grant recipients. You have done your families and yourselves proud!

Thank you to our SMEEU union leaders for organising this meaningful ceremony and for always looking after our members and their families.

Joined the wonderful folks from Mountbatten New Vogue to celebrate National Day at Katong CC.

Always so happy to see this energetic bunch. Your smiles, enthusiasm and positive energy never fail to lift my mood!

And of course, no celebration is complete without some dancing! I had a great time dancing to YMCA and enjoying the evening together.

I run a lean team for our Meet-the-People Sessions. It keeps things personal for our residents. There is no point having activists outnumber the residents who come to see me at our weekly MPS.

Not every active volunteer participates in our MPS. Instead, they are deployed across the neighbourhood for other outreach activities. But I make it a point to bring everyone together for a makan session at the branch every month.

We have some restaurant-level home chefs at the branch, and they take turns cooking for everyone.

We work hard and play hard in Mountbatten.

Spent the morning with our seniors at a Scam Awareness & Digital Literacy Workshop, learning how to stay safe from scams and navigate the digital world with greater confidence.

Thank you to Mountbatten C2E and Digital Defence Alliance Singapore (DDAS) for putting this together and to all our partners and student volunteers for giving their time to teach and engage with our seniors.

It’s important that our seniors feel confident using digital services and know what to look out for to stay safe from scams.
