We are pleased to announce that Advocate Moniza Kakar and Advocate Shankar Singh have successfully secured a favorable judgment from the Court of Commissioner for Workers' Compensation & Authority under the Sindh Payment of Wages Act.
The team represented an applicant (a former Projects Manager) who was unlawfully terminated by a prominent film production company without notice or due process. Despite the applicant's attempts to resolve the matter through legal notices and the Directorate of Labour, the respondent failed to release outstanding salaries and legal dues.
Recognizing the respondent’s deliberate withholding of wages and their failure to appear before the court despite multiple notices, the Honorable Court ruled in favor of our client:
The court ordered the payment of the outstanding salary and pro-rated dues totaling Rs. 310,483/-.
Due to the intentional nature of the withholding, the court awarded four times compensation for the decretal amount.
The respondent has been directed to deposit a total of Rs. 1,552,415/- with the Court for disbursement to our client.
This judgment reinforces the statutory protections provided under the Sindh Payment of Wages Act, 2015, and serves as a reminder that labor rights and due process must be upheld in every professional environment.
Congratulations to the legal team for their persistence and for ensuring justice was served.
