Sindh Injured Person Compulsory Medical Treatment (Amal Umer) Act, 2019 | Legal Rights and Hospital Obligations
In this informative video, Mr. Hammad Ahmed Khan, Advocate High Court, explains the legal obligations of hospitals and medical practitioners regarding the provision of immediate medical treatment to injured persons under the Sindh Injured Persons (Compulsory Medical Treatment) (Amal Umer) Act, 2019. The video also discusses the legal protections available to individuals who voluntarily take injured persons to hospitals for emergency medical assistance.
The legislation was enacted in 2019 following the tragic death of 10-year-old Amal Umer, who sustained a gunshot injury from a stray bullet during an exchange of fire between the police and alleged robbers. The incident raised serious concerns regarding the failure to provide timely and appropriate medical treatment to injured persons in emergency situations.
In response to this tragedy, the Provincial Assembly of Sindh enacted the aforementioned legislation to establish legal obligations concerning emergency medical treatment and to address the concerns of individuals who assist injured persons by transporting them to hospitals.
