Australia is expected to add another 1.4 million people over the next four years as immigration forecasts have been revised upwards in the latest Treasury Budget papers.

๐น Net Overseas Migration for 2025โ26 is now forecast at 295,000
โก๏ธ Up from the earlier estimate of 260,000.
๐น Migration for 2026โ27 is expected to reach 245,000
โก๏ธ Higher than previous projections.
๐น Australiaโs population is projected to grow from around 28 million to 29.4 million by 2029โ30.
๐๏ธ The Government says migration remains critical to support:
โข Skilled worker shortages
โข Construction and infrastructure projects
โข Healthcare and aged care sectors
โข Economic growth and productivity
๐ท The Budget also outlines plans to attract:

Younger migrants

Better educated professionals

Higher-skilled workers

Overseas tradies and construction workers
๐ The Permanent Migration Program will remain at 185,000 places for 2026โ27, with the majority focused on skilled migration pathways.
๐ At the same time, the increase in migration is expected to continue discussions around:

โข Rental shortages
โข Infrastructure pressure
โข Cost of living challenges
