Things to Do in Cavite
There are a lot of things to do in Cavite. It may not be at the top of many people’s travel lists, but you might be surprised to know that the province is more than just the chilly mountain climbs of Tagaytay (though it’s always a great place to be!). Cavite is definitely worth exploring–from mountains to beaches to historical sites, especially for those with time and a full tank of fuel. Here’s a list of what to do in Cavite and what you should check out.
Enjoy comfort food
One of the top things to do in Cavite is food tripping. Tagaytay is known as a foodie destination because of all the great restaurants and cafés in the surrounding area—but if you want to skip the crowds and explore a little farther, there are a lot of other options.
If you want to stay close to Tagaytay, you can go down Aguinaldo Highway to nearby Silang to visit places like Siglo Farm Café and Gourmet Farms. For coffee lovers, there are a number of cafes all around in cities like Imus and Dasmariñas.
Immerse in history
Cavite is one of the cradles of the Philippine Revolution, and as such, it’s steeped in a lot of history. All Filipinos definitely have to go to the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in his ancestral house in Kawit, as well as other ancestral homes and shrines dotting the province. Those looking for a more intense trip can take a ferry to Corregidor Island off the southwestern coast of Manila Bay to tour a World War 2-era fortress and learn more about the history of the Philippines.
Other things to do in Cavite is to visit historic churches. Those who want to make pilgrimages or visit these equally legendary sites can make a trip to parishes such as St. Michael the Archangel in Bacoor, one of the oldest churches in the province that survived the British invasion of the Philippines in 1762. Fr. Mariano Gomes, one of the three martyred priests known as GOMBURZA, administered this church from 1824 until his ex*****on in 1872. St. Francis of Assisi in General Trias is also another church to visit. This site bore witness to the first performances of the Philippine National Anthem before its official debut at the Philippine Declaration of Independence in June 12, 1898.
Relax at the beach
Batangas may be better known for its beaches, but Cavite also has some beautiful spots worth basking in. Dive deep into the heart of the province and check out Paniman or Katungkulan Beach in Ternate, or head to the beautiful coves in Maragondon. It’s definitely a nice place to consider if you’re looking for a destination that’s not that far away from the city.
Go on a hike
Looking for something more exhilarating? Cavite also shares breathtaking mountainous terrain with neighboring Batangas. Bordering Batangas is popular Mt. Batulao, a common beginner-friendly hike usually taken on by hikers.
Experienced adventurers looking for a harder challenge can try out Mt. Marami in Maragondon, which features steeper slopes and more rugged terrain. Lastly, those in Tagaytay can also try out the hike to Taal Lake.
Visit a leisure farm
For those looking for something a little off the beaten path, Cavite also has its fair share of relaxing leisure farms. Gourmet Farms along Aguinaldo Highway in Silang is a nice place to dine and have coffee. You can take a farm tour here and learn about agriculture and biology. You can also shop for vegetables and coffee at their store. Also try to pass by Brookside Hills Leisure Farm in Emilio Aguinaldo. It is a popular agri-tourism destination that offers a glimpse of the slow and serene farm life. Here you can snuggle with baby goats, pet cows, and feed the pigs.
