🎓 Important Update for International Students in New Zealand

From 16 November 2026, new work visa options will be available for eligible international graduates.

A new 6-month Short-term Graduate Work Visa (SGWV) will be introduced for certain NZQCF Level 5–7 graduates who do not qualify for a Post Study Work Visa (PSWV).

There are also positive changes for graduate diploma holders. Eligibility for the Post Study Work Visa will be extended to graduates who hold a New Zealand graduate diploma and a bachelor’s degree, including bachelor’s degrees completed outside New Zealand.

Baby Born in New Zealand?

One of the most common misconceptions we see is parents assuming their baby automatically becomes a New Zealand citizen or receives the same visa status as them.

In many cases, that's not how it works.

If you're in New Zealand on a temporary visa, there are important steps to take after your baby is born, including obtaining a birth certificate, arranging a passport, and making sure your child's immigration status is properly addressed.

⏳ Acting early can help avoid unnecessary stress, delays, and immigration complications later.

If you've recently welcomed a baby and aren't sure what comes next, we're happy to help you understand your options and the correct process.

Working towards residence? Don’t forget the bigger picture.

Many people focus only on completing the required work time for residence, but your employment is often just one part of the process.

One of the most common issues we see is people waiting until the end of their required work period before reviewing everything else — only to discover something important is missing, including requirements for family members they want to include.

⏳ The best approach is to work towards all requirements while completing your time in New Zealand, so you’re ready to apply as soon as you become eligible.

If you’d like a review of your residence pathway or current situation, feel free to get in touch.
