By filling out this survey (10min) not only will you help us to discover more about how people actually view the current legal situation in the area of online contracts but also be part of the change. Be part of the future and help us show what consumers really want!!

Since 2005, the network of the European Consumer Centres promotes the understanding of EU consumers' rights and assists in resolving complaints about purchases made in another country of the network (including all 28 MS of the EU, Norway and Iceland), when traveling or shopping online.

The ECC-Net can assist you by:
- informing you of your rights under EU and national consumer legislation;
- giving advice on possible ways of dealing with your complaint;
- providing direct assistance to resolve complaints in an amicable way with traders
- redirecting you to an appropriate body if the ECC-Net cannot help

The ECC-Net also provides for a free mobile app "ECC-Net: Travel" to help consumers when traveling abroad.

The can bring the matter to court or try to the without going to court.

If the consumer wants to settle the matter outside court, s/he can consult the (ECC-net) for assistance regarding any problem with a trader in another country.

Did you know? Major French have signed a voluntary contract to unsold, edible food to for human or animal consumption. The measure also includes a pledge to end the practice of pouring bleach over unsold food and remove best before dates from certain own brand labels such as vinegar and sugar. Despite the fact that the French parliament voted this year to include these measures as part of the energy bill, they had to be removed due to legal technicalities. As a result, many of the major French supermarkets agreed to these terms and a group of French MPs are still fighting for the measure to become law.

To prove that nobody reads the terms and conditions, the online computer game seller Gamestation created an April Fools' Day prank in which the company claimed the legal right to the souls of customers in its terms and conditions. They also added an opt-out option within the new terms and conditions stating that "if you a) do not believe you have an immortal soul, b) have already given it to another party, or c) do not wish to grant us such a license, please click the link below to nullify this sub-clause and proceed with your transaction." If the link was clicked, the customer would receive a 5£ voucher for discovering the prank. Gamestation said that 7500 people made online purchases on 01 April 2010 and that none of them clicked on the link, meaning that all customers failed to check the terms and conditions closely.

We all know that going to is a rather unpleasant but sometimes inevitable matter. The European Small Claims Procedure provides consumers and businesses all over Europe with a uniform and inexpensive debt process for low value in cross-border cases without the need of legal representation. The is a written one and applies in civil and commercial matters where the value of a claim does not exceed 2000€. It introduces standard forms to be used by the parties and courts across the EU and establishes time limits for the parties and for the court in order to speed up litigation concerning small claims. The application form itself contains detailed guidance notes to assist the users in completing it.

In the EU, consumer protection legislation guaranties that everyone has the right to be treated fairly when buying household goods at the supermarket, paying the bill at the energy supplier or downloading music. European legislation guarantees consumers fair treatment, products which meet acceptable standards, and a right of redress if something goes wrong.
