THE WHISPERING ISLES
PART 2:
Lyra swiftly scaled the trunk of a nearby tree, her hands and feet finding holds in the gnarled bark. She settled into a crook in the branches, her eyes scanning the underbrush below.
From her new vantage point, Lyra spotted a figure emerging from the shadows. It was a woman with long, wild hair and leaves woven into her clothing. She moved with a quiet confidence, her eyes scanning the forest floor.
The woman stopped beneath Lyra's tree, her gaze fixed on the ground. Lyra held her breath, unsure if she should reveal herself.
The woman's eyes flicked up, and for a moment, Lyra thought she'd been spotted. But the woman's gaze passed over her, and she continued scanning the surroundings.
Suddenly, the woman's head cocked to one side, and she seemed to be listening to something. Lyra strained her ears, but she heard nothing.
The woman's eyes locked onto a specific point, and she began to move towards it with purpose. Lyra's curiosity was piqued. She decided to follow the woman, carefully climbing down the tree to pursue her from a distance.
As Lyra followed, the woman led her deeper into the jungle, the trees growing taller and the air thickening with an otherworldly energy. Lyra felt like she was being drawn into a secret world, hidden from the rest of the island.
The woman stopped at the edge of a clearing, and Lyra crept closer, hiding behind a tree trunk. In the center of the clearing stood an enormous stone statue, covered in vines and moss. The woman reached out a hand and touched the statue's face, and the air seemed to vibrate with an eerie power.
