REPORT ON THE START CONFERENCE OF THE YOUNG SURVEYORS NETWORK, NIGERIA, RIVERS STATE BRANCH

The Young Surveyors Network (YSN), Rivers State Branch, successfully held the Start Conference on Tuesday, 5th November 2025, at the NIS Secretariat, Port Harcourt. The event, which commenced at exactly 10:00 AM, had the theme “Digital Transformation: Exploring Cutting-Edge Geospatial Technologies and Artificial Intelligence Integration, Prospects and Challenges.”
The conference began with an opening prayer, followed by welcome remarks and the introduction of dignitaries. The event witnessed the presence of several esteemed personalities, including the Surveyor General of Rivers State, Sir Peter Ogolo, and distinguished Fellows of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors such as Dr. Irene, Dr. Ekundayo, and other notable professionals within the surveying and geospatial community.
The conference featured insightful keynote presentations that addressed emerging trends and challenges in the profession.
Dr. Inemi Stephen delivered a lecture on Project Management, highlighting modern approaches to efficiency and collaboration in the digital era.
Surv. Dr. G. T. Pepple presented a paper titled “Prospects and Challenges for Leveraging AI Integration in a Growing Geospatial Market,” which explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping geospatial data collection and analysis.
Surv. Dr. Stanley Eke spoke on “The Surveyor’s Seal: Upholding Professional Integrity and Public Trust in Geospatial Practice,” emphasizing the ethical responsibilities of professionals in maintaining the credibility of the surveying profession.
The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Rivers State Branch, the professional regulatory body for surveyors, was well represented by its Chairman, Surv. Baridi S. Legbara, alongside members of the State Executive Council, who lent their full support to the program.
As part of the Network’s vision for human capacity development and mentorship, several students from various boys’ and girls’ secondary schools across Rivers State attended the event. Their participation reflected the Young Surveyors Network’s commitment to inspiring the next generation of surveyors and promoting career awareness among youths.
The Organizing Committee worked tirelessly to ensure the conference’s success, coordinating every aspect of logistics, planning, and communication to deliver a seamless and memorable experience.
The event received extensive media coverage, with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Surveyors Report present to document and broadcast the proceedings, thereby showcasing the achievements and innovative drive of the Young Surveyors Network, Rivers State Branch.
The Start Conference 2025 was indeed a remarkable and impactful gathering that set the tone for continued growth, collaboration, and technological advancement within the surveying profession.
