If you transact with companies like Meta Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp), Google and the likes, you may have gotten a mail from them notifying you about their decision to start charging and collecting Value Added Tax(VAT) on your purchases starting from 1st January, 2022.

This decision is not arbitrary as the Law now requires this of non resident Suppliers of digital goods/services.

If you or your company supplies digital services to Nigerian residents, you are required to comply with the VAT Act, provided you/your company is non resident in Nigeria and your supplies totals or exceeds or is expected to total $25,000 or it's equivalent.

PLEASE NOTE that the due date for remitting VAT/filing Returns is 21st of every month.

And so the bank's ATM withheld his ATM card for no fault of his. When the card was finally retrieved, it was destroyed by one of the bank's official who informed him that he had to apply for issuance of a new ATM CARD and of course! He would be charged for the new one. He exclaimed "this is wickedness!!!" and oh! He is a customer of the bank.

Finally it got to her turn after standing for 2hrs 14mins in the long queue. Happily, She inserted her ATM card into the ATM expecting to get paid as was the case of the others with different banks' ATM cards who had gotten paid;after all it was her bank's ATM. In the spirit of understanding she walked into the bank and demanded for a counter cheque, same was handed to her coupled with the information that the charge(money) would be deducted from her account. She protested, stating that the issue with the ATM was the bank's fault. Still the sum of #215.00 was debited from her account.

Do you want to be aware?
Do you want to know about the remedies available to you as a customer against your bank??
Do you have questions as to bankers/customers relationship???
