USAID-funded Promoting the Rule of Law Project A USAID-funded project supporting justice sector reform and promoting civil society participation in Myanmar.

The USAID Promoting the Rule of Law Project (PRLP) supports the U.S. Government’s strategic foreign assistance priority of “a prosperous, democratic, and stable Myanmar that reflects the diversity and aspirations of its people.” It specifically supports the goal of “transparent, accountable, responsive, and participatory processes and institutions.” PRLP works closely with USAID to develop strateg

ic relationships with and between key actors in civil society and the justice sector, enhance understanding and adoption of best practices in rule of law development, provide critical rule-of-law assistance to government and civil society entities, and develop government-civil society partnerships for greater public understanding and access to justice. PRLP supports key counterparts such as the Union Attorney General’s Office (UAGO), the Supreme Court, the Rule of Law and Tranquility Committee of Parliament, and civil society organizations to achieve the following primary objectives:
• Promote more effective, accountable and accessible justice sector institutions; and,
• Increase legal literacy, access to justice, and the participation of marginalized populations in target regions/states. PRLP currently supports rule of law and judicial sector capacity-building initiatives nationally, with specific Pilot Court activities in Hlaing Tharyar Township, Yangon; Hpa-an, Kayin State; and Taungoo, Bago Region; and civil society activities throughout Myanmar including Mon State, Kayah State, Northern Bago Region and Yangon.
