They tried to shut them up, but their voices are louder than ever."

The 2024 Gen Z protests weren’t just headlines—they were real lives, real pain, and real courage. Behind every stat is a young Kenyan who faced police brutality, a family grieving, and a generation refusing to back down.

We documented these stories with care, ensuring survivors were heard, supported, and in control of their narratives. Speaking out wasn’t easy, but they did it—to demand justice, to inspire others, and to make sure the truth is never buried.

Their voices matter. Their fight is now. Are you listening?

Ninety-five days have passed since Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye and Hajj Obeid Lutale were abducted in Nairobi and taken to a military detention facility in Uganda on fabricated charges.
Separately, in January 2025, during a hearing at the General Court Martial in Kampala, human rights lawyer Eron Kiiza, who was representing Besigye and Lutale, was detained and sentenced to nine months.
So far, no one—including officials within William Ruto’s regime—has been held accountable for this act of transnational repression.
Tune in to Spice FM as KHRC’s Martin Mavenjina discusses this issue and shares what we are doing to secure the trio's release and bring those responsible to justice.

ICJ Kenya, alongside other applicants, challenged Inspector General Japhet Koome Nchebere for violating the constitutional rights of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists' Union (KMPDU).

Under his command, law enforcement unlawfully suppressed peaceful protests, infringing on the rights to freedom of association (Article 36), peaceful assembly (Article 37), and fair labor relations (Article 41). Citing the doctrine of command responsibility, the Court held Former IGP Japhet Koome personally liable for failing to prevent or address these abuses, underscoring the need for accountability to protect fundamental freedoms and uphold the rule of law.
