According to the IMF, approx 2.5-5% of the world's GDP is laundered money. Criminals are developing even more dubious means of cleaning their ill-gotten gains. The practice is so rampant in developing countries such that corruption and crimes have derailed most economies. Stealing v Handling stolen property
Did you know if you are found guilty of handling stolen property, you are fined more than the thief?

Under Kenyan law, anyone who is found guilty of stealing is liable for imprisonment for three years. However, anyone found guilty of handling stolen property is liable for imprisonment for fourteen years.

Why is this so? People who handle stolen property encourage thieves to keep doing their work. So if there were no people to handle stolen goods, thieves would not have a place to take their spoils.

Therefore, before you buy that fancy phone, make sure it was not stolen as you could phase 14 years in jail for handling stolen property.

Since the 90s, both businesses and their customers have moved online due to the internet revolution. Consequently, firms have had to be innovative in how they reach out to their customers. Many companies have resulted in the use of Short Messaging Services (SMS) to reach out to their customers.
This systematic shift has been both a blessing and a curse to customers. To be specific, customers have been receiving unwanted marketing messages, and this has made some of them very angry. Case in point, Senior Counsel Ahmed Nassir "threatened" to sue Safaricom in a tweet. In today's post, we examine the Lawyer's "threats" and their significance in today's world.

Everyone applauded Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta for negotiating a truce that saved a country that was on the brink of war. Touted as the handshake, the two parties would work together to solve Kenya's perennial problems. Subsequently, they formulated a task force, known as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI). The task force was to look into some of the problems plaguing the country and come up with recommendations. Since the conclusion of the taskforce's mandate, the two have been involved in publicization campaigns to drum up support for the BBI. In today's post, we explore the BBI, understand why we need a referendum, and give our views on the same. Click the link below to find out more.
