Kenya–Rwanda Breakfast Forum | Kigali

On Friday, Karl Mediation & Arbitration Center was honoured to host a successful breakfast forum headlined by the Minister Counsellor Kenya High Commission Rwanda that brought together judicial leaders, legal practitioners, the Kenyan diaspora, students and professionals to discuss the future of ADR and regional collaboration.

Our 20-member delegation explored opportunities to strengthen mediation, access to justice and cross-border partnerships. We are also encouraged by the opportunity for members of the delegation to be considered for Court-Annexed Mediator Accreditation by the Supreme Court of Rwanda.

We look forward to partnering with institutions across East Africa to advance mediation and collaborative dispute resolution.

A landmark day for Karl Mediation and Arbitration Center in Kigali. 🇰🇪🇷🇼

Yesterday, our delegation was hosted by Secretary General Victor Mugabe and his team at the Kigali International Arbitration Center (KIAC) — one of the region's foremost ADR institutions.

During the session, we:
- Learned from KIAC's experience administering arbitration and mediation proceedings
- Explored current case uptake statistics and institutional frameworks
- Received a detailed history of ADR development in Rwanda
- Explored opportunities for regional cooperation between our institutions

Most importantly, a pathway has been established for members of our delegation to join the KIAC panel as arbitrators and mediators — a significant step in KMAC's regional expansion.

East Africa's ADR ecosystem is growing. KMAC is proud to be part of building it.

Today, our 20-person delegation of karl mediation mediators and arbitrators had the honour of a courtesy call with H.E. Ambassador Janet Mwawasi Oben at the Kenya High Commission in Kigali — and left with something far greater than a photograph.

We were briefed on the High Commission's role, the nature of disputes that reach its doors, and how ADR has already been quietly at work in service of Kenyans living and doing business in Rwanda.

Most significantly, the High Commission has agreed to refer complex matters to Karl Mediation and Arbitration Center.

East Africa is not a future ambition. It is where we already are.

We proudly celebrate the latest graduates of the Executive Advanced Certificate in Family Mediation & Conflict Resolution at Karl Mediation & Arbitration Center.

Through intensive practical training in high-conflict family disputes, custody mediation, negotiation strategy, and trauma-informed practice, this cohort strengthened the skills needed to handle today’s complex family conflicts with professionalism and care.

At Karl Mediation & Arbitration Center, we remain committed to advancing the future of family mediation practice in East Africa.

On 10th February 2026, I will be delivering a Mediation Masterclass: From Conflict to Resolution at Riara University, hosted by Riara Law School.

I will be unpacking:
– How real conflicts actually escalate
– Why litigation often fails parties even when you “win”
– What effective mediators do differently in high-stakes disputes

For young lawyers, advocates & mediators who believe dispute resolution is a skill, not a slogan.

Building Kenya’s future mediation and arbitration talent pipeline.

Last year alone, five law schools benefited from our competitive mediation and arbitration scholarship opportunities extended to LLB students and Advocate Trainees — opening doors for high-potential young professionals to enter the ADR space early and seriously.
