India is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) which focuses on the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities since 2007. This means that in order to comply with the UNCRPD, the country needs to remove barriers that hinder persons with disabilities from actively participating in society.
While India is home to over 1.36 billion residents, over 2.2 percent of this population endures some form of severe mental or physical disability. Persons with disabilities are one of the most neglected sections of our nation. Such people have several rights under various Indian laws as well as UN conventions that are followed in India. What are these laws for disabled people in India? Are disabled people included in social activities? Do the disabled have rights in this country? What laws should people with disabilities be aware of?
Join us to discuss more on this at the conversation on 'Disability Laws in India' on 30th July at 10:30 AM IST | Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwtdOiurT4vH9GdwLA_E2-vBhtUl2oMhN1z
