It all started in 2016 when we found it very difficult and overwhelming to find accurate information on how to get married in Europe. After going through this arduous process and finally getting married in Northern Ireland, we decided to share our experience and posted our story on a Facebook group to inform and help couples who were in a similar position of when we tried getting married. Soon after, people started contacting us asking for help. From 2016 to 2017 we helped hundreds of couples who needed straightforward information for their own processes. After helping those couples, we were encouraged by them to open our own consultancy. At first, we were a bit reluctant since our focus was just to help others, and not turn it into a business. However, as it got very demanding and this was taking away a lot of our free time since we were both working full time, we decided that it was time to make it formal by opening a business. Sometime later, we started supporting couples with their weddings in multiple locations, as well as providing support for individuals with their residence visas and employment permit applications. Since the beginning, MWeds has grown significantly in terms of improving its processes, making weddings and visas simpler and more straightforward for couples and individuals. As a team, we consult people from all over the world in getting married in Denmark, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland and Brazil. Also, we are happy to help individuals with their Irish Residence permits and Employment Permits in Ireland.

Another immigration process is going digital in Ireland. 🇮🇪💻

Permanent Residence Card applications under EU Treaty Rights can now be submitted online through the ISD Customer Portal, using Form EUTR3.

And this is more than just a change in how the application is submitted.

The new online process allows applicants to complete their application, upload supporting documents, track its progress, submit queries directly through the Portal and receive automatic updates by email.

For those who qualify, the Permanent Residence Card is an important step. It is valid for 10 years and allows the holder to work or operate a business in Ireland.

But what if you already started your application on paper?
➡️There is a transition period.

If you have already started an application using the previous paper-based version of Form EUTR3, you can still submit it by post until 15 October 2026.

After this date, applications must be submitted using the new EUTR3 application form.

It’s also worth noting that ISD advises that postal applications are likely to take longer to process and will not offer the same online features, such as tracking your application, submitting queries directly to your case officer or receiving automated email updates.

This is another important step in the modernisation of Ireland’s immigration services and particularly relevant for those approaching 5 years of residence under EU Treaty Rights and considering their next step.

From 31 August to 6 September, another group of our clients received the news they had been waiting for:

→ 5 New General Employment Permits

→ 3 General Employment Permit Renewals

→ 1 Change of Employer approval

A quick guide to the abbreviations used in this post:

GEP = New General Employment Permit

RGEP = Renewal General Employment Permit

CoE = Change of Employer

Different professions, different nationalities and different plans but each approval represents someone taking another important step forward in Ireland.

🇮🇪 Irish Citizenship Update
What was approved today?

The Government has approved the General Scheme, the framework that sets out the main changes being proposed and will now form the basis for drafting the Bill.

But an important reminder:
the rules have not changed yet.

There is still a legislative process ahead.

The Bill needs to be drafted, progress through the Dáil and Seanad, and, once passed, be signed by the President before becoming law.

The next stages should also bring more clarity around some of the details that are still unknown.

We are continue following every development closely and will continue explaining what each stage means for current and future applicants. 🇮🇪

🇮🇪 The conversation around Irish citizenship could be about to take a significant step forward.

Today, 9 September, marks another important step in the discussions around Ireland’s citizenship rules.

After weeks of debate, the proposals that could reshape the naturalisation process in Ireland are expected to move forward today, with a request for the legislation to be prioritised.

And if you’re planning to apply for Irish citizenship, these are developments worth watching closely.

Among the changes being proposed:

→ Increasing the residency requirement from 5 to 8 years

→ Introducing an English or Irish language test

→ Requiring applicants to demonstrate knowledge of Irish civics

→ Introducing new financial self-sufficiency requirements

→ Changes affecting spouses and civil partners of Irish citizens

The intention is to move the legislation forward as a priority, with the proposed changes potentially coming into effect by the end of 2026 or in 2027.

But this is important: these are still proposals. Nothing changes for citizenship applicants today.

There is still a legislative process ahead before any new rules can come into effect.

5 Change of Employer approvals 🇮🇪✅

Over the past few weeks, we’ve received 5 Change of Employer approvals, all for Playgroup Leaders.

And these cases highlight an option that many Employment Permit holders still don’t know is available.

If you hold a General Employment Permit or Critical Skills Employment Permit, you may be able to change employers after 9 months from commencing employment on your first Employment Permit in Ireland, without applying for an entirely new permit.

But changing employer isn’t simply a matter of accepting a new job.

Your new role needs to fall within the occupation rules applicable to your permit, your existing permit must have at least two months remaining when you apply, and you cannot start working for the new employer until the updated permit has been issued.

The Change of Employer process also has an important advantage: a new Labour Market Needs Test is not required.

So if a new opportunity comes your way, don’t automatically assume that your Employment Permit means you have to stay where you are.

Understand your options before making your next move.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve received 5 Change of Employer approvals, all for Playgroup Leaders.

23 Employment Permit approvals in two weeks! 🇮🇪👏

Between 13 and 31 August, we received 23 Employment Permit approvals for our clients, including new permits and renewals.

Two roles stood out in this round:

✅ Playgroup Leader — 6 approvals
✅ Healthcare Assistant — 6 approvals

But we also saw approvals across IT, marketing, hospitality, procurement, agriculture, renewable energy and manufacturing.

If you’re looking for opportunities in Ireland, there’s an important takeaway here:

Employment Permits are not limited to one or two sectors.

Your occupation, the role itself, the salary offered and the type of permit you may qualify for all matter.

So before assuming your profession isn’t an option, check what the rules actually say and understand which route may apply to your situation.

Every approval represents a different career, a different journey and another step forward in Ireland. 💙

But there’s something missing from this list… 👀

Our recent Change of Employer approvals aren’t here and that’s intentional.

We’re saving them for a separate post because there’s a lot you should know about this option.

Of course, previous permits don’t mean there’s a vacancy available right now or that every role will qualify for an Employment Permit, but they can show you where international recruitment has already been happening.

Waiting for your IRP renewal?
Here’s where processing currently stands. 🇮🇪

ISD has updated the submission dates currently being processed across the different Stamp categories, so if you’re waiting for your new IRP card, this can give you a better idea of where your application sits in the queue.

If you submitted your application after the date shown for your Stamp category, your application is still queued and will be processed in due course.

ISD is currently experiencing an extremely high volume of IRP renewal applications, and applications are being processed strictly in order of submission date within each Stamp category, to ensure fairness to all applicants.

Once your application has been successfully processed, remember that it may take up to a further 15 business days for your new approved IRP card to arrive by post.

So, if your date hasn’t come up yet, it doesn’t necessarily mean there is an issue with your application, it may simply still be waiting its turn.

📅 Submission dates are updated weekly, so make sure to keep checking for the latest information.
