It all started in 2016 when we found it very difficult and overwhelming to find accurate information on how to get married in Europe. After going through this arduous process and finally getting married in Northern Ireland, we decided to share our experience and posted our story on a Facebook group to inform and help couples who were in a similar position of when we tried getting married. Soon aft

er, people started contacting us asking for help. From 2016 to 2017 we helped hundreds of couples who needed straightforward information for their own processes. After helping those couples, we were encouraged by them to open our own consultancy. At first, we were a bit reluctant since our focus was just to help others, and not turn it into a business. However, as it got very demanding and this was taking away a lot of our free time since we were both working full time, we decided that it was time to make it formal by opening a business. Sometime later, we started supporting couples with their weddings in multiple locations, as well as providing support for individuals with their residence visas and employment permit applications. Since the beginning, MWeds has grown significantly in terms of improving its processes, making weddings and visas simpler and more straightforward for couples and individuals. As a team, we consult people from all over the world in getting married in Denmark, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland and Brazil. Also, we are happy to help individuals with their Irish Residence permits and Employment Permits in Ireland.

🚨 Is your profession on the list?

Ireland has expanded the range of occupations eligible for a General Employment Permit, adding nine new roles to the list.

The newly eligible occupations are:

✔ Pharmaceutical Technicians (Healthcare specific)
✔ Dental Hygienists
✔ Plastic Lining Technicians
✔ Steel Fixers
✔ Fencing Operators / Erectors
✔ Curtain Wallers
✔ Printers
✔ Industrial Machine Knitters
✔ Concrete Pump Operators

For employers experiencing recruitment challenges and international candidates seeking opportunities in Ireland, this update may create new pathways to employment.

📌 Most General Employment Permit applications remain subject to a Labour Market Needs Test (LMNT), meaning the employer must advertise the role and demonstrate that suitable candidates could not be found within the local labour market before an application is submitted.

👇 Was your profession included? Let us know in the comments.

⚠️ Eligibility depends on the specific role, salary, qualifications, employer circumstances, and compliance with all Employment Permit requirements. Inclusion on the list does not automatically guarantee approval of an employment permit application.

For the first time, we attended the Dublin Tech Summit and what an experience it was.

Over two days, Simone Ferreira represented MWeds Global Advisory at one of Ireland’s leading technology events, connecting with founders, innovators, investors and business leaders from a wide range of industries.

For us, these events are about more than networking. They are an opportunity to better understand the sectors driving Ireland’s growth, the challenges businesses are facing and how international talent continues to play an important role in that journey.

We also captured some great content during the event and look forward to sharing a few insights and conversations from the summit over the coming days.

Ireland’s workforce is changing faster than many people realise 🇮🇪

And one statistic from the latest CSO report says a lot about where the country is heading:
📊 61% of employee growth between 2019 and 2024 came from non-Irish nationals.

At the same time:
• Labour shortages continue to grow
• Ireland’s workforce is ageing
• Several sectors are already heavily dependent on international workers
• and Immigration processes are becoming increasingly restrictive and complex

This conversation is no longer only about immigration.

It is about:
• Ireland’s future workforce
• Employment permits
• Labour shortages
• Family reunification
• Workforce retention
• Economic growth
• and what the country may look like over the next decade

One of the biggest contradictions right now is that Ireland is becoming increasingly dependent on international talent, while access to that talent is simultaneously becoming more difficult in many situations.

At MWeds Global Advisory, we decided to go deeper into the latest CSO report and analyse what these numbers may actually mean in practice, especially from the perspective of employers, migrants and the current immigration system.

📖 We published a full article on our LinkedIn and blog breaking down the key findings, the labour market trends behind the numbers and what this may mean for Ireland moving forward.

“If I already have a European passport… does Irish citizenship still make sense?” 🇮🇪

The short answer:
Not always from an immigration perspective,
but for many people, it can still be a very important long-term decision.

For immigrants who have built a life in Ireland, Irish citizenship can represent:
✔️ More long-term stability
✔️ A stronger connection with the country
✔️ More security for the future
✔️ Better integration for you and your family

And there’s another important point that many people don’t realise:
Because of the Common Travel Area (CTA) agreement between Ireland and the UK, Irish citizens can live and work in the United Kingdom without needing a UK visa or immigration permission 🇬🇧

So if living in the UK is something you may consider in the future, Irish citizenship can become a huge advantage.

Sometimes citizenship is not just about a passport, it’s about the future you want to build.

As many of you saw in the recent eDublin video, Rubinho is starting his Irish citizenship application journey, and we’ll be by his side throughout the entire process.

This is the first video in a series where we’ll be talking more about Irish citizenship and answering common questions about the process.
