Last week, we talked about some of the oldest businesses still operating here in Athens.

Our short list included **Harry’s, Dick Ferguson’s, Add Drug in Five Points, and Wuxtry Records.**

So here are **6 things you probably didn’t know about Wuxtry Records.**

🎸 Wuxtry has had some seriously famous people come through, including Peter Buck of R.E.M. and Kate Pierson of the B-52s.

📅 Wuxtry opened in 1976, making it one of the longest-running independent businesses in Athens.

🎤 Peter Buck actually worked at Wuxtry before R.E.M. took off.

📰 The name comes from old comic-book slang — “Wuxtry! Wuxtry!” — basically an exaggerated version of “Extra! Extra!”

📚 Upstairs was Bizarro Wuxtry, known for comics, zines, collectibles, and all kinds of weird stuff.

⭐ And Wuxtry has also earned national recognition as one of the country’s notable independent record stores.

Next time you walk past it, remember — you’re walking past a real piece of Athens rock-and-roll history.
