Right to rent checks changed on 1 October 2026.

If you check a tenant’s ID digitally, it must now be done through a certified, Home Office-registered provider. If a check is wrong, the fine for a first breach is £10,000 per adult occupier, and £20,000 for a repeat. We do these checks for the landlords we manage.

Peterborough landlords: every rented home will need to be registered.

The government’s “Register your rental property” service opens in the East of England on 15 January 2027. The deadline for Peterborough is 14 April 2027. It costs £65 per property, every year, and you will need your gas, electrical and EPC certificates to hand. Landlords who do not register risk a fine.
