Last Thursday we had a special afternoon celebrating Angela’s retirement after an incredible 25 years in our accounts team at Olliers.

Angela has been such a valued part of the firm for so long and it is hard to imagine the office without her. Her dedication, reliability and quiet expertise have supported us all over the years and she will be greatly missed.

Janet gave an emotional speech filled with funny anecdotes reflecting on Angela’s contribution and the many years she has given to the fir. A big thank you to Stacey and Janet for organising such a thoughtful and well put together lunch.

Angela - it has been an absolute pleasure working with you. Everyone at Olliers wishes you a very happy, well deserved retirement filled with all the things you enjoy.

Good luck and we know you will stay in touch.

Last week, Senior Associate Kathryn Lloyd was invited by Manchester Law Society to speak at a conference aimed at the next generation of lawyers. The event provided training for lawyers at the beginning of their careers, offering insight into the essential soft skills needed when communicating with clients. Kathryn was invited to speak due to her experience representing neurodiverse clients.

Her talk provided valuable guidance on recognising neurodiversity in clients, as well as practical adjustments lawyers can make to their communication methods to ensure neurodiverse individuals receive the highest standard of client care. Kathryn shared examples of the policies and practices in place at Olliers, including staff training on supporting neurodiverse clients, the alternative communication methods we offer to help clients feel comfortable, and the steps lawyers can take in police stations and courtrooms to make the legal process more accessible and less overwhelming.

Kathryn enjoyed the opportunity to share her experience with aspiring lawyers and received positive feedback and thanks from attendees following the conference.

Anne-Marie Nicholls represented a client at the pre-charge stage of a highly sensitive investigation involving indecent image offences.

Through extensive preparation, expert psychological evidence, detailed mitigation, and a strong focus on the client’s rehabilitation, Anne-Marie built a compelling case demonstrating the client’s low risk to the public and commitment to change.

This case highlights the importance of early legal intervention and thorough pre-charge representation in achieving the best possible outcome for clients facing serious allegations.

We are proud to announce a groundbreaking new partnership between Olliers Solicitors and Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN) aimed at reducing the criminalisation of neurodivergent young people.

Our new three-year programme, Seen, Heard, Diverted, has been created in response to a deeply concerning reality: research suggests that around 80% of children in the youth justice system are neurodivergent or have special educational needs.

At Olliers, we see first-hand how autism, ADHD and other neurodivergent behaviours are too often misunderstood as aggression, defiance or non-compliance — with devastating consequences for young people and their families.

This initiative will bring together:
🔹 Legal expertise from Olliers Solicitors
🔹 Youth-led co-production from GMYN
🔹 Specialist support from Respect for All and the GM Neurodiverse VCSE Collective

Together, we will deliver:
✅ Rights-awareness and prevention programmes for young people
✅ Support and practical guidance for parents and carers
✅ Training tools for police, solicitors and magistrates to improve understanding of neurodivergence

“If 80% of children in the justice system are neurodivergent then we are not dealing with a crime wave — we are dealing with a systemic failure of understanding,” said Olliers Business Development Director Ruth Peters.

This partnership is about early intervention, education and creating safer outcomes for vulnerable young people across Greater Manchester.

We hope this work can become a model for change nationwide.
