While there is no legal maximum workplace temperature in the UK, employers still have a duty to protect workers from the risks associated with hot weather. We're really pleased to see Matthew featured in this article from Insider Media.

In 2018, we hit what we’ve since called “year zero”. On paper, things looked strong. In reality, we lacked a clear, sustainable direction.

We stopped chasing volume, started saying “no” more often, and focused on doing the right work, the right way. The biggest shift wasn’t strategy. It was getting people to believe in it. There’s still more to do but we’re clear on the direction.

Matthew's leadership has played a huge part in shaping Olliers into what it is today, supported by our talented team partnering legal brilliance with unmatched client care. It’s great to see that recognised more widely.

Thanks to Legal Futures for the opportunity to reflect on the journey.

In his latest blog, Matthew Claughton examines the Law Commission's major consultation on the future of homicide law and the significant reforms being proposed.

The consultation considers replacing the current two-tier structure of murder and manslaughter with a three-tier model, introducing a new offence of second-degree murder, and reforming the law on manslaughter to better reflect differing levels of culpability.

Matthew explores the key proposals, what they could mean in practice, and why this consultation represents one of the most significant reviews of homicide law in decades.

In her latest blog, Martha Odysseos examines the UK Government's proposed reforms to the General Medical Council's legislative framework and what they could mean for healthcare professionals.

With changes including increased GMC autonomy, a single professional register, new offences, and reforms to fitness-to-practise proceedings, the proposals represent one of the most significant shifts in healthcare regulation in recent years.

As the consultation period draws to a close, Martha explores the key changes, why reform is being proposed, and the potential impact on doctors, physician associates, anaesthesia associates, and other regulated professionals.

We are proud to be part of a groundbreaking partnership between Olliers Solicitors and Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN), aimed at reducing the criminalisation of neurodivergent young people.

Our new three-year programme, Seen, Heard, Diverted, has been created in response to a deeply concerning reality: research suggests that around 80% of children in the youth justice system are neurodivergent or have special educational needs.

At Olliers, we see first-hand how autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent behaviours are too often misunderstood as aggression, defiance, or non-compliance — with devastating consequences for young people and their families.

This partnership focuses on early intervention, education, and creating safer outcomes for vulnerable young people across Greater Manchester.

We hope this work can become a model for change nationwide.
