In this case study represented by George Odysseos, we share one of his recent successful Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) cases.

George represented a client who had been placed on the Adults’ Barred List following a period of acute mental health difficulties that had resulted in multiple incidents involving the police. Several years later, the client sought Olliers’ assistance when their inclusion on the Barred List began to affect their chosen career.

Through detailed representations, George and the Olliers DBS team presented medical evidence, supporting statements and references to demonstrate the client’s rehabilitation and progress. A more recent diagnosis also helped to provide important context to the client’s previous behaviour and their journey towards managing their condition.

Following representations, the DBS agreed to remove the client’s name from the Adults’ Barred List.

Over the weekend, a team from Olliers, alongside friends, family and colleagues from Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN), took on the Millers Dale Viaduct abseil in support of our ongoing fundraising efforts.

The challenge is part of our work supporting GMYN and the vital work they do with young people across Greater Manchester. Despite some initial nerves, everyone embraced the challenge and it was an incredible day from start to finish.

We're incredibly excited (and if we're honest, just a little bit nervous!) for our charity abseil tomorrow at the beautiful Millers Dale Viaduct.

A team from Olliers Solicitors, including Matthew Claughton, Nicola Bruce, George Odysseos and Rachael Latto, alongside friends, family and colleagues from GMYN will be taking on the challenge to raise funds for a fantastic cause.

As Matthew put it: "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous, but challenging myself and stepping outside my comfort zone is something I've always embraced."

We're keeping everything crossed for good weather and looking forward to an amazing day supporting GMYN and the vital work they do with young people across Greater Manchester.

Olliers Solicitors is featured in the latest edition of The Messenger from Manchester Law Society, highlighting our upcoming 100ft charity abseil in support of Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN).

Taking place on 5 September, the challenge will raise funds for the Seen, Heard, Diverted campaign, part of Olliers’ three-year partnership with GMYN.

The campaign aims to build a prevention pathway for neurodivergent young people who come into contact with the youth justice system, supporting young people, parents and carers, while also providing training for professionals across Greater Manchester.

The abseil is the latest in a programme of fundraising activity, following the team’s participation in the Tatton Park 10k in July.
