This was an all-too-familiar message seen by our founders, Nihaal, a law graduate, and Simran, an economics graduate. Rejection after rejection, having achieved the required credentials, they did not know what mistakes they were making in their job applications and so did not know what they needed to correct in the next one.
They turned to their university careers advisers for guidance, but the advice was often too generic for that required to succeed in their competitive industries. Their peers were in the same boat and only the lucky ones had contacts within their industry whom they could reach out to for advice. It was a noticeably fragmented and uneven playing field.
Nihaal and Simran were the fortunate few who persevered to break through the application barrier and respectively secure a job in a City law firm and a global bank. Ten years on, Nihaal was invited to present to over 100 graduates at a leading university in London. It transpired that today’s graduates are facing the same problems as he did during his time at university.
Graduates want advice on their job applications and interviews directly from people within their industry. So, Nihaal and Simran decided it was time to do something about it and give graduates what they want. This is when Apportunity was born.
