Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.
— Winston Churchill
From rejection to respect. Consistency beats talent.
In 2006, I was a student in London, working part-time at Waitrose, quietly dreaming of becoming a solicitor.
After finishing my shift at 1.00 pm, I walked into law firm after law firm looking for a part-time job or any legal experience even unpaid. Door after door closed. Every answer was no. One solicitor even criticised my CV.
By the end of the day, I was tired, embarrassed, and seriously questioning myself. Feeling I had nothing left, I tried one last office. They said yes but there was no pay. I accepted immediately.
I worked hard and often put in more hours than my paid
colleagues. I stayed consistent. Some colleagues questioned why I was working for free. Some days, it hurt but I showed up anyway.
Six months later, I was paid.
Later, I became a partner.
Eventually, in 2013, I built my own solicitors’ firm, Unique Solicitors.
Today, one of the same people who once rejected me now asks me more than once to join him for a drink on a Friday evening.
Life has a way of turning rejection into respect.
My lesson is that talent may open a door, but consistency keeps it open and earns success.
My honest purpose in sharing this is to make a difference one day, especially for young people who feel rejected, unsure, or
overlooked and to show them that growth comes from consistency, courage, and showing up, even when no one is watching.
SHOW UP EVEN WHEN IT HURTS.
Have you ever been rejected but kept going?
