💚 Today was all about Ilford as several members of the Edwards Duthie Shamash Solicitors team took part in the Ilford in Green Action Day!

Following on from our win of Redbridge Business of the Year at last year's Ilford and Redbridge Business Awards, we were invited by the Business Improvement District (BID), who hosted those awards, to participate in today's local community project.

We were joined by many other businesses and supporters of the Ilford BID along with local councillors and key people from the Ilford Town Centre projects.

☀️ Thankfully the weather was kind to Anna Orpwood, Asya Erol, Harry J., Chanel Moseley and Anjali Sehgal as they embarked on litter picking in the town centre (whilst slightly more green fingered teams worked on the planting up of the greener areas).

Whilst they were there, not far away at the Town Hall, Julia McFall and Rehana attended the Redbridge Chamber of Commerce Business Conference. They were able to network and engage with many other local businesses.

🥂 The Edwards Duthie Shamash Solicitors team recently celebrated the change over of our Senior Partner at the HMS President in London!

The event marked the retirement of Shaun Murphy from the role as Senior Partner and the succession to the role by James Harrison.

It was a great evening with lots of colleagues, supporters of Edwards Duthie Shamash Solicitors and clients celebrating the achievements of the firm. Shaun remains a valued Partner in the firm and is now enjoying devoting more time to his casework.

✒️ EBIN Europe ltd v Mr Kwangho Shin: A recent decision on the application of defamation law in the workplace

On 27 April 2026, Master Sullivan ordered that the claimant’s claim be struck out in the case of Ebin Europe Limited v Mr Kwangho Shin (KB-2025-003736).

The defendant was employed as a Warehouse Manager by the claimant, a cosmetics business, and was dismissed for gross misconduct following six statements he made in Korean at a closed business meeting of approximately twenty senior executives and team leaders. The claimant subsequently brought a defamation claim against the defendant, seeking to argue that the statements were defamatory and had caused the claimant serious reputational and financial harm.

Master Sullivan determined, inter alia, that the defendant’s comments were not defamatory as they did not meet the required level of seriousness. In her judgment, she warned against the policy implications of allowing defamation claims to be brought for comments made during business meetings in the workplace.

Krupa worked for 6 years at a niche law firm in London that specialised solely in private client law where she gained her training as a paralegal and qualified as a lawyer through the CILEX route in March 2020. She then cross-qualified as a solicitor in March 2021.
