Disabled professionals often encounter significant barriers to work, particularly when their roles require international travel.

President of the European Spinal Cord Injury Federation, Lucy Robinson, was recently invited to speak in Germany and Italy as part of her role. Yet, despite not requesting any additional NHS funding, she now risks being unable to fulfil these professional duties because the NHS has said it cannot support her essential care outside the UK.

Lucy’s case exposes a wider issue: the practical obstacles that prevent disabled professionals from certain opportunities, and the extent to which public bodies must consider their duties under the Equality Act 2010.

How are personal injury awards treated on divorce?

A serious injury doesn’t just affect the individual concerned. It can place profound emotional, practical and financial pressure on families and relationships – sometimes with long‑term consequences.

In part one of this two‑part series, Jenny Bowden (Divorce and Family) and James Philpott (Personal Injury) explore how personal injury awards may be treated on divorce.

Drawing on recent case law and research into relationship breakdown following serious injury, the article highlights why early understanding and planning is so important.

At Stewarts, pro bono is embedded in how we practise law. This year, 20 of our lawyers have been recognised on the 2026 Pro Bono Recognition List.

Pro bono work is a long standing and integral part of our commitment to access to justice. Each year, our people dedicate thousands of hours to supporting individuals and communities who would otherwise be unable to access legal help.

Congratulations to all those recognised — and to everyone across the profession who gives their time pro bono.

Webinar: Local authority funding and personal injury trusts – lessons from R (CGT) v West Sussex County Council

In February 2026, a seminal High Court judgment was handed down in R (CGT) v West Sussex County Council, addressing whether a local authority may refuse Care Act 2014 social care funding or seek recovery of previously paid care costs on the basis that a claimant has funds held in a personal injury trust.

Our returning guest Rachel Burley Stower, who was instructed by CGT in the case, reflects on the judgment and considers its implications for claimants and those supporting them in securing local authority funding.
