With temperatures in London set to reach over 34 degrees in the next week it is important that employers consider the impact on staff. ☀☀☀

Sadly we cant all close our offices and head to a swimming pool or a beach....

There’s no law for minimum or maximum working temperatures, eg when it’s too cold or too hot to work. However, guidance suggests a minimum of 16ºC or 13ºC if employees are doing physical work.

There’s no guidance for a maximum temperature limit.

Employers must stick to health and safety at work law, including:
-keeping the temperature at a comfortable level
-providing clean and fresh air

Employees should talk to their employer if the workplace temperature isn’t comfortable.

Some measures employer can take to look after the welfare of staff during these hot day include:
Keep the blinds or curtains drawn.
Reflect and reduce the heat.
Purchase fans
Turn off heat-generating objects.
Change the hours of work
Supply cold water .....
(and an ice creams if youre a nice employer 🍦)

From 1st July 2022 nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists and physiotherapists working in GP practices or in hospitals will be able to issue and sign fit notes. The change follows on from the digitalisation of fit notes on 6 April 2022 and is intended to free up GP time for consultations and streamline the process for patients, employers and the NHS.

Pride in London is an annual LGBT+ pride festival and parade held each summer in London. The event, which was formerly run by Pride London, is sometimes referred to as London Pride.

The parade will take place today will mark 50 years since the first ever UK pride march in 1972. It was estimated that 1.5 million people attended the last street-party event in 2019 – so we can guess that 2022 is going to be just as big, if not bigger.
