Today we are off to Olalla, Washington, United States📍

Named Olalla Forest Retreat Storybook Cottage, this property is the perfect place to get away from the busyness of life and enjoy the whimsical and the magic of this quirky home. Tucked away in the forest, there is little light pollution so you can enjoy the star filled skies and maybe a supermoon!

If you are planning to sell, (and even if you aren’t !) it’s good for your home to have kerb appeal to give a good first impression. You might want to add plants, using pots and window boxes. Or lights always create a welcome which is easy these days with solar powered ones. Of course, you may also need to screen for privacy or security with hedges or motion-sensitive lighting.

Whatever you choose, make it attractive…..your front door gives an indication of what is behind it!

In memory of 9/11, this is The Oculus Building which represents NYC’s rebirth. It is the centrepiece of the World Trade Centre transportation hub and replaced the station that was also destroyed on that day. Designed by Spanish architect, Santiago Caltrava, it was finally opened in 2016 and resembles a dove being released from a child’s hand.

The astonishing building is a lasting reminder of the events of that day. The building, apparently, is in alignment with the angle of the sun on each 11 September and, at very significant times of the day, its central skylight fits this alignment and washes the Oculus floor with a beam of light.

Today is 999 Emergency Services Day. We are indebted to the 2 million people who work tirelessly to keep us safe and well every day.

Thank you to all those who don’t think twice before running towards danger, to those who work in the NHS, volunteers and many behind the scenes. We have all needed many of you at some point in our lives, and will do so again.

And we remember those who have fallen while on duty.
