We’re growing… and that means bringing in brilliant people to our company.
We have an opportunity for a HR & Business Support Administrator who will be at the heart of everything we do.

If you love variety, love working hands on as part of a small team and enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment, this could be your kind of role. It’s HR, but very different to an in-house role. We work with many different clients, navigating different cultures, different leadership styles and different priorities. You'll develop breadth, skill and impact in a different way.

Interested? Let’s talk.

And what fun we had.......every year our team meets up with our extended network of super talented HR Directors and Consultants. It's a chance to connect, to share insights, stories, challenges, successes and tonnes of belly laughs.

We got the chance to connect again with all our fantastic partners who help support our clients. We delved forensically into business growth and action planning and got all nerdy over the Employment Rights Act 2026. We debated long and hard the topic of AI generated grievances, something we are dealing with increasing regularly with our clients (one recent one was 312 pages 🫣) and how we can provide the best advice when faced with these situations.

Our Chris Mathieson from The HR Dept Highlands, Islands and Moray even came away with an award on the night for being a super talented HR practitioner who looks after our clients with great care and attention.

Today is full of reflection, taking back wisdom, success stories and planning our next steps. Lots to think about and lots to do, and continuing to build upon being the consultancy of choice for our clients. Bringing more services and more value.

Until the next time.

Our blog this week focuses on the importance of obtaining reliable HR advice. Reliable HR advice isn’t a luxury, it’s a business necessity. Most of our clients realise this as they start working with us. Even during client onboarding, we sense an almost immediate feeling of relief and calmness.

From protecting organisations against legal risk to ensuring fair, ethical, and commercially sound people decisions, trusted HR guidance underpins strong leadership and better workplaces. In complex areas like TUPE, employee relations, and organisational change, accuracy matters because good HR advice doesn’t just solve problems, it protects people, reputation, and business success.

It was lovely to wear one of my other hats this weekend as Treasurer of the Gordonstoun Highland Games as we delivered yet another highly successful Highland Games. We welcomed a huge volume of local and international visitors, parents, teachers and children who enjoyed great food, fun games, the fairground and the all important games events. The sun shone for the whole day. The HR Dept Highlands, Islands and Moray were delighted to provide sponsorship alongside many other local businesses all in aid of our two fantastic charities this year THE LADYBIRD DEVELOPMENT GROUP and WILD THINGS. Both charities will benefit from our proceeds from the day. Both charities deliver such amazing work for the community and our proceeds will benefit care for pre-school children with additional support needs and outdoor learning and wellbeing programmes to help overcome educational and social disadvantages

"Can I bring my brother to support me at my disciplinary hearing?" This week's most interesting question focused on the role of a companion during a disciplinary meeting. The law recognises an employee's right to be accompanied, however it's important to recognise where the boundaries lie.

A workplace colleague or a trade union official can act as a companion. There is no right to be accompanied by anyone else. However there are some circumstances where an employee with a disability may be accompanied by a friend or family member who does not work for that employer. This would be regarded as a reasonable adjustment to reduce the employee's disadvantage.

In other more limited circumstances legal representation is allowed however the bracket is narrow and only if the resulting decision may impact someone's ability to continue to practice in their profession.

A high proportion of our clients opt for our Advice Line solution where email and telephone support is unlimited and you can receive quick answers, support and reassurance when you need it. We'll help support you with the information you need to make the right decisions in your business.

Ever feel like you blink and half the week has disappeared already? Our team has definitely experienced that this week. As we close Q1 of 2026, we have delivered a huge variety of different work across the Highlands, Islands and Moray for our clients. Here's a snapshot:

- Delivered in-person strengths based coaching to support the promotion process of a Manager to Director level in their organisation

- Supporting three Transferor's successfully navigate the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006 as their businesses transfer to new owners

- Delivered client onsite development work to support a large scale business change

- Concluded on reaching HR compliance for a number of micro businesses

- Successfully supported several clients in avoiding the risks and safely parting company with employees

- Conducted many conversations with existing clients regarding the ongoing changes brought about by the Employment Rights Act 2025

- Have onboarded many new clients into the HR Dept fold

- We moved house (office!) and settled into our new surroundings

- We are expanding our team and looking forward to welcoming our new colleague soon

And we are still smiling, perhaps it's through the excessive consumption of mini eggs. Roll on Q2, we are ready to continue supporting our clients with expert and practical HR and employment law advice. The HR Dept Highlands, Islands and Moray

The HR Dept Highlands, Islands and Moray has something special to share and today and we move into our new office in Brackley House in Inverness.

Thanks, to our neighbours Brian Innes and the team at IBI, Graeme Clark MIET, TechIOSH,MICWCI, Appointed Person from Ethos Safety and NorDan UK Ltd for the lovely welcome.

It’s a super exciting milestone for us, just as we begin our 6th year in business. What started as a small venture has grown into a trusted HR and employment law support service for SME clients across the Highlands, Islands and Moray. We’re incredibly grateful to the businesses who continue to place their trust in us to help navigate people challenges, support growth, and provide practical, commercially focused advice.

The new office marks the next chapter, giving us space to continue developing our services and supporting even more local employers.

I wanted to give a mega shout out to the team at Highland Business Suites for looking after us until now. I can't recommend them highly enough. Their team are such wonderful hosts led by the amazing Julie Lister. We will miss your lovely welcomes. Thank you for the stunning cakes Lily Rose Cakes helping us celebrate our move.

As for today, we are ensuring we reflect and take stock and enjoy the bubbles and cake, however we are missing our fourth team member Alison who is working hard supporting our clients. We’ll keep some cake aside for you!

Thank you to our clients, colleagues and partners who have been part of the journey so far, we’re excited for what comes next.
