I have witnessed people with litigation claims have to discontinue as they cannot afford to pay for barrister’s fees. Litigant in person are also left navigating complex legal proceedings alone, which affects both fairness and confidence in the justice system.

I created Access to Advocacy, a Community Interest Company, to help address this gap.

Access to Advocacy raises funds to enable individuals to instruct authorised barristers and also works to improve public understanding of legal rights and litigation processes.

I hope that those believe in fair access to justice will support this initiative — whether by donating, sharing, or getting involved in any way they can.

Access to justice should be guided by need and merit, not by financial means.

Important Update for Renters!!

The Renters’ Rights Act 2025 has now received Royal Assent. The main changes will come into effect once the government sets the commencement dates. This act will bring real benefits for people who rent their homes. The biggest change is the end of the “no-fault” evictions (section 21), which means a landlord can no longer ask you to leave without a reason.

The Act also introduces more control around rent increases. A landlord can only raise rent once a year and must follow proper notice rules. If the increase feels unreasonable, the tenant can challenge it through a process.

Finally, the Act strengthens standards for property conditions, making it easier for tenants to have issues like damp, mould, or disrepair addressed without fear of losing their home for speaking up.

Overall, the goal is stability for renters.

Attention all: Significant changes for council/housing association tenants

From 27 October 2025, a new law, Awaab’s Law, will come into effect across England. It gives social housing tenants stronger rights and faster action when their homes are unsafe or in disrepair.

This law is named after Awaab Ishak, the two-year-old who tragically died from exposure to mould in his social home. This law forces social landlords (councils and housing associations) to act quickly when serious hazards are reported.

Under Awaab's Law, tenants can now expect clear and strict deadlines for repairs, ensuring their safety and security are prioritised.

Emergency hazards (e.g. serious leaks, electrical faults, gas or fire risks) must be investigated and made safe within 24 hours.

Serious hazards like damp and mould must be investigated within 10 working days and made safe within five working days thereafter:
Social landlord must comply with the above deadlines.

If you’re living with damp, mould, leaks, broken heating, unsafe electrics, or any other disrepair, and your social landlord failed to take action after you have notified them of the disrepair, then contact us today.

For many, living in a home with leaks, broken plumbing, or mould-infested walls is an ongoing battle. These conditions can affect our health, comfort, and even mental well-being.

Yet, for countless renters, landlords neglect necessary repairs, leaving them to live in unsafe and deteriorating conditions.

If you are dealing with housing disrepair, you are not alone. There is help out there, and your rights matter.
