We’ve loved having Nicole with us for a five-week placement at Haddletons – and there’s a great story behind how it all began.

A chance meeting with our founder James at The Ivy in Harrogate turned into an opportunity thanks to Nicole’s warmth, curiosity and willingness to start a conversation.

She’s been a huge asset during her time with us and, as her placement drew to a close, Nicole and her sister – who is also studying law – joined James as Haddletons’ guests at Harrogate Town’s win on Monday.

Nicole said:

“I’m so grateful to James and the team at Haddletons for giving me this opportunity. It’s been a brilliant five weeks and has given me such a valuable insight into the legal profession."

“This experience helped to remind me that opportunities do not always arrive through carefully planned routes. Sometimes they come from a simple conversation, an unexpected encounter or moments where it would be much easier to stay within your comfort zone.”

Good luck with whatever comes next, Nicole. It’s been a real pleasure having you as part of the team! 🙂

Your employment contracts and HR policies are the foundation of good people management. They help set expectations, protect your business, ensure legal compliance and provide employees with the information they need throughout their employment.

However, employment law changes regularly, and as businesses grow and evolve, HR documentation can quickly become outdated. Even small omissions or inconsistencies can increase the risk of employee disputes, compliance issues and costly employment tribunal claims.

We regularly work with businesses that are unsure whether their employment documentation is up to date. Often, a simple review identifies opportunities to strengthen policies, improve consistency and reduce legal risk.

To help businesses gain confidence in their HR documentation, we’re currently offering a free HR Mini Audit.

The Government has unveiled plans to reshape the way workplace sickness is managed, with major changes expected to the current fit note process.

For employers, these developments could signal a significant shift in how absence is assessed, managed and supported. As these employment laws continue to evolve, employers should take the opportunity to assess whether their sickness absence procedures remain fit for purpose.

Our team supports businesses with long-term absence cases, capability concerns, workplace adjustments, return-to-work planning, policy reviews, occupational health referrals, and managing potential discrimination risks.

As the fit note system evolves, having the right support in place can help businesses remain compliant, minimise disruption, and create healthier, more productive workplaces.

Jacqui and Lizzie have been working on an exciting project. As part of this, they read the McKinsey’s State of Organisations Report 2026, and one statistic got them talking: 72% of leaders say their organisation isn’t ready for what’s coming next.

The report explores AI, geopolitical uncertainty, and changing roles but what struck them is how much of it comes down to people and culture rather than technology or market conditions in isolation.

You can have a clear strategy, ambitious growth plans and invest in the latest tools, but if people don’t trust the direction of travel, decisions move slowly or teams don’t feel safe to challenge and adapt, growth becomes much harder to sustain.

One of the report’s most interesting findings is that leaders who are more reflective about their own practice are significantly more confident in their organisation’s ability to adapt. Perhaps the real question isn’t whether your strategy is fit for the future, it’s whether your culture is.

What’s having the biggest impact on your organisation’s ability to grow right now: strategy, capability, or culture?

New legal obligations came into effect in June for organisations to follow when handling data protection complaints under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. These changes place greater responsibility on employers to resolve concerns internally before they are escalated to the ICO.

Find out more about what this means for employers, what counts as a data protection complaint, your responsibilities as an employer, and how to prepare your organisation in our latest online article.

Reflecting on another successful transaction our Corporate team was pleased to support CGT Global Limited.

We were delighted to receive the following feedback from Duane Humphreys, Commercial Manager at CGT Global Limited:

“We’ve been impressed by how quickly the Haddletons’ Corporate Team picked up our matter, over a weekend, and produced a state-of-the-art Asset Purchase Agreement. Their responsiveness throughout the process has been exceptional, especially as we’ve needed to make rapid changes. The support and professionalism have been invaluable, and we couldn’t recommend them highly enough.”

It’s always rewarding to look back on transactions where collaboration, responsiveness and commercial focus helped deliver a successful outcome for our clients.

Innovative businesses live or die on their ideas, brands and data. Many SMEs treat intellectual property as an afterthought until a dispute, due diligence request, or missed opportunity can push it to the forefront.

An IP audit is a review of the rights you already have, the rights you need and the risks and gaps to address.
