Schools must ensure they process requests for SEND students in a timely manner.
Otherwise, they risk paying hefty fines in case of unnecessary delays that inconvenience parents and their kids.
Case in point:
The Social Care Ombudsman recently reported that a school had failed to update a SEND child's Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) records to match those of a new area they moved to. This caused the pupil to miss 7 months of learning!
The school had to pay the child's mom £3,600 and issue them an apology for the inconvenience.
