Your Lawyer Friend, abeg help me. My sister has been arrested for a crime she knows nothing about😭
Barr. Tee, my sister’s boyfriend visited her and said he wanted to step out briefly. Before leaving, he asked her to help him keep his bag and promised he would return shortly.
She agreed. After all, na her boyfriend.
Unknown to her, the guy was allegedly involved in internet fraud, and security operatives had been tracking him.
When they eventually traced him to my sister’s place, they found the bag he had left behind. Inside were several items allegedly linked to his fraudulent activities, including multiple phones, SIM cards and documents containing suspicious financial details.
The boyfriend was nowhere to be found.
Now, my sister has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime. She insists she knew nothing about his activities and only kept the bag because he asked her to.
Barr. Tee, I’m confused and scared. Can my sister be charged for a crime simply because her boyfriend left incriminating items in her custody? Does keeping the bag make her a conspirator, even if she knew nothing about what was inside? What should we do to get her out of this situation?
