Charity cheer from Murray Hills
Every year Bridlington solicitors firm Murray Hills select a charity to support.
In 2019 the chosen charity was Motor Neurone Disease association (MNDa) Scarborough and Bridlington branch.
Motor Neurone Disease is very close to the heart of Murray Hills managing director Keith Murray as his dad sadly passed away from this awful condition leaving the family’s world turned upside down.
At the time they did not know where to turn or that anyone was out there to offer support, so Murray Hills wanted to raised awareness of MNDa as well as money for the local group throughout 2019.
Emma Long from Murray Hills said; “The staff gave themselves a target of £2,000 and set about achieving this by setting up a JustGiving page and organised and hosted various activities.”
In May, members of the Murray Hills team headed to the Yacht Club on South Marine Drive next to the start of the famous Tour De Yorkshire cycle event, they had their own cycle, an exercise bike, along with tombola and special guests from Hull Kingston Rovers.
During August, the staff hosted a Meet and Greet, giving the public an opportunity to meet the local MNDa volunteers and find out more about what they do. A Pikachu visited for the day providing a great photo opportunity, hugs, high fives and raised an impressive £305 for the charity.
In November, Murray Hills went wild with their ‘Go Wild for MNDa’ event. Local business Go Wild Animal Encounters volunteered their time to bring a marvellous array of exotic animals to the King Street office for members of the public to meet and learn about.
“MH training officer Caroline made a giant leap and took on the York 10k run. Being a non-runner to start with this certainly was a challenge but with hard work and determination Caroline triumphed beating her own expectations, raising money and awareness along the way.” continued Emma.
Local photographer Emma Addison volunteered her time to snap a charity pet calendar. A competition was run on Facebook, and after an overwhelming response twelve pets were chosen
Murray Hills called on their friends at Mighty Lancer Games to sell the calendars online as an additional outlet and they sold all across the country and even as far afield as America.
In between all the above activities name the teddy, guess the dice, auctions of signed merchandise, sponsored slim, festive wear day and a huge raffle were also held.
A fantastic final total of £5,414 was raised and handed over to the MNDa group who were overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the vital fundraising efforts.
