A postnuptial agreement can cover a wide range of financial matters if you and your spouse want clarity on what happens if your marriage ends.

👉 You can include how things like property, savings and investments will be divided if you separate.
👉 It can set out what happens to the family home, pensions and business interests.
👉 You can decide who is responsible for debts and whether either of you will receive spousal support.
👉 It can protect inheritance or future gifts so they stay with the intended person or children.
👉 Some agreements also cover life insurance or estate planning.

Remember, anything relating to child custody or support isn’t typically enforceable in a postnup, family courts always prioritise the children’s best interests.

Review your agreement regularly, circumstances like inheritance or new family members can change what’s fair or needed.

In England and Wales, postnuptial agreements are not automatically legally binding but they can be very persuasive in court if certain conditions are met:
✔ Full and frank financial disclosure
✔ Independent legal advice for both partners
✔ Entered into freely, without pressure
✔ Terms that are fair and reasonable

Judges still have the final say under the Matrimonial Causes Act, but a well-prepared postnup is much more likely to be upheld when reviewed by a court.

A postnuptial agreement is a legal contract a couple signs after marriage to explain how assets, debts and financial responsibilities would be handled if they separated.

It’s not automatically legally binding in the UK, but courts are increasingly likely to uphold one that’s fair, entered into freely and supported by independent legal advice.

Postnups can help provide clarity, protect assets, and reduce future disputes especially if circumstances have changed since marriage.

Pre-nups often feel uncomfortable not because they’re unfair, but because they’re misunderstood.
For many couples, the hesitation is emotional rather than legal.

In the UK, a pre-nup is about clarity and balance, not control.
When prepared properly, it encourages transparency and informed decision-making, not distrust.

Independent legal advice for both partners is essential.

Asking for a prenup isn’t about mistrust. It’s about honest conversations, early clarity, and mutual respect.

In the UK, prenups aren’t automatically binding. Courts still assess whether the agreement was entered freely, with full financial disclosure, and whether it remains fair at the time of divorce.

Where complexity arises:
1️⃣ The court must review how the prenup was made
2️⃣ Unfair or outdated terms can be challenged
3️⃣ Children’s needs and basic financial provision always come first
4️⃣ Poor drafting can increase disputes instead of reducing them

A well-prepared prenup usually guides settlements and limits conflict.
A rushed or unfair one can slow everything down.

If you’re relying on a prenup or thinking about one clarity matters.

Can a prenup make divorce more complicated?
In the UK, prenups aren’t automatically binding. Courts look at fairness, disclosure, and whether both sides had legal advice.
Done right, they can help. Done wrong, they can slow everything down.

Can your landlord raise rent more than once a year?

Short answer: No, not under the new rules.

From May 2026, rent increases in England are limited to once every 12 months. Landlords must:
1️⃣ Use a formal Section 13 notice
2️⃣ Give at least 2 months’ notice
3️⃣ Set rent in line with the market rate

Think the increase is too high?
You can challenge it at the Tribunal, who decides what’s fair and not the landlord.

These changes give tenants more time, more clarity, and a proper way to push back against unfair rent hikes.

“They said WHAT? Let’s fact-check landlords.”

💬 “I can keep your deposit for cleaning.”
➡️ Not automatically. Deductions must be fair, evidenced, and more than normal wear and tear.

💬 “I don’t allow benefits or pets.”
➡️ Blanket bans aren’t allowed. Landlords must consider tenants fairly and individually.

💬 “I can raise rent whenever I want.”
➡️ No. Rent increases follow strict rules, notice periods, and timing limits.

💬 “I don’t need to fix that.”
➡️ If it affects safety or habitability, repairs are the landlord’s responsibility.

Knowing the law saves you stress, money, and bad surprises.
If something feels off, check it before it costs you.
