Le projet « Trace » est l’initiative d’un artiste, Tindar, et d’un avocat, Pierre Farge, pour venir en aide aux exilés de la Jungle à Calais. Alors que les autorités leur réclament sans cesse leurs empreintes pour les ficher, les déshumanisant un peu plus, ici, l'artiste renverse ce paradigme : afin de réaliser ses œuvres, l'artiste sollicite aux côtés de l'avocat les migrants eux-mêmes afin de ré
colter les empreintes de qui bon leur semble dans le camp ou en dehors, de bénévoles, habitants de Calais, autres migrants, élus locaux ou même ministres en déplacement. Il s’agit par là de sensibiliser au drame qu’ils traversent ainsi que de rendre un peu de dignité aux migrants dont le quotidien est fait d'abandon, mépris et violences policières. A plus long terme, une exposition et une vente aux enchères des œuvres réalisées sera organisée à Paris : les fonds récoltés iront à la cause des migrants. Cette opération inédite lie art et droit pour tenter d'améliorer le quotidien des migrants, d'alerter et sensibiliser la population civile européenne sur la gravité de la situation mais aussi pour mettre un peu d'art et d'humanité dans le quotidien de ces laissés-pour-compte. Tindar (www.tindar.it) est un jeune artiste italien né en 1986. Pierre Farge (www.pierrefarge.com) est un avocat et curateur français. Son engagement en droit pénal et droit d'asile dans les camps de réfugiés est à la genèse du projet. Il réalise que l'art peut porter son message au-delà de la barre d'un prétoire. The 'Trace' project is the work of an artist, Tindar, and a lawyer, Pierre Farge, in support of the refugees of the Calais Jungle. Over the course of several years, Tindar has created a series of works based on fingerprints, which represent a human being's most intimate identity. Migrants have left everything and have almost no identity. Since the authorities continue to take their fingerprints, dehumanizing them further, the artist here attempts to reverse the paradigm. With this goal in mind, he asks migrants themselves to collect the fingerprints of anyone appearing in or outside the camp; volunteers, residents of Calais, local officials or even ministers. The aim is to educate those people to the drama faced daily by migrants and to bring a little dignity to people whose daily life often features neglect, contempt and police violence. The Project also practically aids migrants who are living in utter destitution and need assistance. Each fingerprint taken by a migrant will immediately earn them €1. 10,000 prints are needed to complete the work. In the longer term, an exhibition and sale of works will be organized in Paris: The money raised by the sale of these works will be donated to the material needs of migrants (food, clothing, education). This unprecedented operation binds art, humanitarianism and law, and attempts simultaneously to improve the lives of migrants, and to alert and educate Europeans to the seriousness of the situation.
