🎉🎉🎉🎉Landmark Achievement in Ethiopian Criminal Justice Reform.👏👏💪🎉🎉🎉🎉 👇 We at Melkamu Ogo Law Office (MOLO) are proud to celebrate the enactment of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Code Proclamation No. 1410/2026, officially passed on April 2, 2026 by the House of Peoples’ Representatives. Our office had the honor of contributing to this historic law through a series of workshops and trainings with judges, prosecutors, private lawyers, academics, and public defense practitioners. Together, we critically examined the draft code, introduced new concepts, and provided research-based recommendations to strengthen the justice system. A series of high-level workshops and training sessions addressing critical legal issues, including: • Burden of Proof and Admissibility of Evidence • Plea Bargaining and Alternative Dispute Resolution in criminal justice • In-depth analysis of the Draft Criminal Procedure and Evidence Code These platforms brought together distinguished participants—judges from federal courts, public prosecutors, private practitioners, public defenders, and academics—creating a space for rich dialogue and professional exchange. 🎯 Our Objectives Were Twofold: 👉 1. To introduce newly emerging legal concepts and equip practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective application. 👉2. To critically examine the draft law, identify gaps, and provide well-researched, constructive recommendations. Following these engagements, MOLO compiled comprehensive findings and formally submitted comments and recommendations to the Ministry of Justice. We are deeply honored that our efforts were recognized, as the Ministry of Justice acknowledged our contributions with an official letter of appreciation, recognizing MOLO’s role in ensuring that key actors in the legal sector had their voices heard before the final draft was submitted. Today, we celebrate not only the enactment of this landmark law but also the collective effort that made it possible. We take pride in having played a role in shaping a legal framework that aspires to enhance justice, accountability, and the rule of law in Ethiopia. This proclamation marks a landmark reform in Ethiopia’s criminal justice system, and we are deeply grateful to have played our part in shaping it. 👉 At MOLO, we remain committed to advancing the legal sector of our country, fostering justice, and empowering practitioners with knowledge and skill. Together, we build laws that serve justice. Together, we make history.
